So on Monday I did wedding stuff. First we went to visit my grandpa's friend who is a party planner. She's going to give me a discount on decorations and stuff like that, which is very nice of her.
We talked a bit about the theme. She said she'd start brainstorming, but in the meantime I need to decide on a place so that she has a more concrete idea to work with. She also gave me a list of places she thought I might like that she thought I should look at.
Then we went to one of the places she suggested, which looked like just a big tent in her pictures. Unfortunately they very recently renovated so it looks like a big gold tent. I was not impressed, but I could work with it if I had to.
After that, we went to a card store that works with my mom. She's going to give me a discount on invitations. We spent 3 hours there. I couldn't believe that no one sells celestial-themed cards!
In the end, I had to design my own card. I found a card that I sorta liked with some changes (which of course couldn't be made) so I based my card on that one. I really hope the card lady understood what I wanted. We had some communication problems.
That evening I got to escape wedding stuff by meeting jess, tara, and amanda for dinner. After food we went to amanda's house to watch the claymation christmas special with the california raisins. Also I got to see how amanda's dog is completely in control of that house.
The next day we went to two more potential wedding locations. I actually like the first one. The room is very very empty. I can work with empty. The price wasn't bad either, for what you get. It's about $1,000 more than I wanted to spend, but includes everything. (Maybe I can cut some stuff out to match my budget?)
I really hated the second location. It was very italian style catering hall. Too busy and not my style at all. It was really cheap, but I'm not that desperate.
The rest of the evening was spent talking with ben about our options. I'd like to decide on a place soon.
Yesterday I was finally able to drive home. It started snowing that morning, so my mom tried to force me to stay another day. I refused to give in though, pointing out the snow just started and if I left now, I could be further south before the worst of it.
And I was right. My mom left for work a few hours later, and was sliding all over the roads, but I had no problems at all.
There was very little traffic so I made it home in good time.
Not good enough time for a nap though. And then ben wanted to go to magfest for their new year's eve party. We left early though. It was just a concert that night, there was another loud party in the hotel, and I was fed up by not being able to find parking.
I spent new year's asleep on the couch next to ben, which I think is a wonderful way to spend it.
I should get dressed so we can get back to the con.
Oh, ben wants to take a nap. Guess we're not making it to the con today after all?
