Ha! I know the exact turn you missed, because I have missed that VERY turn almost EVERY SINGLE time I've gone to San Francisco over the past 2+ years!! It is a stressful part of the drive indeed. Also, might I just note that you were in CA near the end of the dry season, and that pretty scenery would've looked even prettier a few months from now after some good long rains.
