If the DMVs there are anything like Chicago, show up on a Wednesday or Thursday early in the morning, and the wait shouldn't be too bad... it gets more crowded on Mondays and Fridays, and around lunchtime any day. If you call up they might be able to tell you when there's usually a shorter wait. : /
