Oct. 9th, 2006 09:07 amGot up bright and early yesterday for the renfaire. It paid off too, because there was no traffic. I got to the faire just as the opening ceremonies were beginning, which made the wait on line for tickets much more tolerable.
After wandering around the main area of the faire for a bit, I called the anime person I was planning to meet. She said she was on her way, just stuck in traffic, and would be there soon. So I sat by the entrance and listened to robin hood tell the same jokes over and over again.
When she arrived, we did some shopping, looked at shiny things, saw a sword-swallower show, and ate food. The sword-swallower showed us how the cup and ball trick is done. And, of course, he swallowed swords. And a giant screwdriver. And a giant spoon. And a balloon.
I'm veru proud of myself for not buying much yesterday. The only thing I got was a henna tattoo on my hand. The woman who did it was amazingly fast. Took her less than 5 minutes. She said she's been doing that for 20 years. Very cool.
Too bad the day ended on a sour note. We left around 6, just as the joust was starting, to avoid traffic. But traffic had already started! Stopped all the way to the exit. Oh, but I didn't know how bad it really was. After the first 10-15 minutes of no one moving, I turned off my car. After the first half hour, I called ben but he didn't answer. Tried again after the first hour. We talked for an hour after that. FINALLY, TWO HOURS AFTER I TRIED TO LEAVE cars started moving and I was able to take the other exit out of the place.
Half an hour after that, (I've been trying to leave for 2.5 hours, if you are trying to keep count.) I was finally on the road. The WRONG road. The police forced me onto a highway heading north. I live very far south of the faire. So I called ben and he saved me by telling me how to get to a road that would take me home.
I got home around 9:30 very very tired. Ben was sweet and made me dinner and gave me vast amounts of water. I was so dehydrated! He said he missed me all day. That made me happy.
Then I passed out on his lap while watching tv. The next thing I knew, it was morning. That was such a long day! I hope the anime person made it home too. That was insane parking lot traffic. I wonder what happened to cause it.
