Feb. 8th, 2009 09:18 amLast night I ordered seeds/plants for this year's failed attempt at gardening.
- Carrots - I am experimenting to see if stubby carrots will grow well in a container. Also, I read that carrots and tomatoes grow well together, so I am experimenting with that as well.
- Tomatoes - I had moderate success with cherry tomatoes last year, so this year I am trying a variety that is supposed to have a higher tomato yield. My big problem last year was that I'd get one cherry tomato at a time. Not very helpful for making much of anything.
- Strawberries - I had moderate success with strawberries last year as well, until the squirrels broke into my fence and tore the plants up. They never really recovered after that. Their roots were pretty badly destroyed, so I'm amazed they lived through the summer as it was.
- Cucumbers - I found a type of cucumber that grows on a bush rather than a vine. It's supposed to do well in containers so it's worth a try.
- Lettuce - I've never had much success of growing any type of greens. I don't know what I do wrong but I'm doing more research on them and hope to have something grow this year.
