There was a fire on the metro today and one of my coworkers happened to be in it!
He said first there was a loud thumpthump under the train and then there was an explosion with smoke and fire coming from the back of the train. Lots of screaming and panicking... probably because everyone was remembering the crash from this summer.
Someone went to the emergency call button to ask the operator to let them out and he said he couldn't until they were at a station. Which of course made people start to scream and panic more because now there were totally trapped in a flaming box of doom until the driver got them to a station.
They did eventually get to the station safe and sound, but very very scared. My coworker says he plans on taking the bus for a while.
I have made a point not to mention the person that got run over by a bus this morning...
I did teach him how to avoid the 1000 series train cars though, if he ever decides to take the train again. Those are the ones that collapse like a soda can in an accident. There's a number directly under the window where the driver would normally be that tells you the series. He appreciated the advice.
