Jun. 22nd, 2010 02:00 pmThis morning I went to a directing marketing seminar about acknowledgments. I did my best to dress like an adult, but I still looked like a kid playing dress up. *sigh*
I think I did well though. I made a point of sitting at a table with lots of people at it so I seemed sociable. And when I introduced myself, I made sure to mention I'm the NEW ack manager. That way they knew not to ask me hard questions.
The seminar was ok. A lot of things I knew already, but I did grab a few ideas. And I got free breakfast, so I think I win. Oh, but there were these REALLY annoying salesmen in the front that kept derailing the conversations to push their products. I don't think they should let salespeople in to these things if they are going to be disruptive.
After, I did a little bit of talking to people. I actually knew someone there, so I said hi to her. A weird smelly man came up to talk to me at one point. I didn't understand a thing he said. I think maybe he was a cleanly dressed homeless guy that came for the free food.
The major downside of the seminar was that I feel like I should have the afternoon off. But I'm still at work. It's tragic. But at least I can leave at 5.
I have started getting up half an hour earlier each morning. I've found the trains are slightly less crowded if I get there a little bit earlier. Lately the metro had been breaking down so often, I was getting to work 20-40 minutes late EVERY DAY. But I haven't had that problem since I started coming in at the earlier time. And I get the nice bonus of being home a little earlier. The afternoon trains are not much better in terms of crowds, but it's very nice to have a little bit more free time in the evening.
