Manga - Kitchen Princess

This 10 volume series was about a girl named Najika who goes to a prestigious cooking academy in order to find her "flan prince," a boy who gave her pudding with a special spoon once when she was very sad. She's disgustingly perfect in every way and you want to slap her by volume 3.

Of course when she gets to the school, no one likes her even though she's so wonderful. Then the two sons of the director befriend her (And of course they are the most handsome guys at school) and things become slightly better. She eventually makes friends with her greatest enemy, a model in love with one of the director's sons. After that, Najika is more or less accepted at the school.

Despite the story being a complete mary sue, it actually wasn't that terrible. The food in the story saves the day every time. And as a bonus, the books include recipes for everything Najika makes. Really, the manga should have thrown out the entire romance plot and stuck to the cooking contests and challenges. Those were interesting.

The story ends as you would expect. She finds her flan prince, she makes friends with everyone in school, and she excels at her cooking.

I don't think I'd recommend this series unless you are weird like me and cannot resist cooking shows and stories. Instead, I'd suggest the anime Yumeiro Patisserie, which is also about a girl who goes to a prestigious cooking school. The romance is much more mellow - almost invisible. The series is far more focused on the food and while they don't give you recipes, they do spend a lot of time teaching techniques. Which I think are more valuable than recipes anyway.

i want a flan prince, but i'm lactose intolerant.

i heart that there's weird niche categories like cooking/romance manga. let me know if you're looking for any CMX books. i might be able to dig some up for you here in the office.

There are pills for that!

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind if I see something that looks interesting.

I'm a sucker for cooking shows/manga. If you ever want to see a really good one, I suggest Yakitate!! Japan. The main character, Azuma Kazuma, is on a quest to create a national bread for Japan! It's heavy on the puns, but they are actually funny so that's ok.
