The Super Dome broke. *blinks* That's the evacuation center for the hurricane.

I was told that the Super Dome was designed to withstand a catagory 4 hurricane. But the roof opened up. You have no idea how upset this is all making me.

Harry Potter, you're the only I know who was left in the city. Please let me know you are ok.

[EDIT] I just saw this amazing video on the path of the storm. New Orleans has a miracle. (It seems like that city always does.) They did not get hit with the worst of the storm. :)

The right of the eye is supposed to be the strongest part of a hurricane. That part was heading dead straight on a path for new orleans. But some time last night, it make a quick dash to the right. New Orleans got hit with the less dangerous left side of the storm.

That's not to say they didn't get hit bad. But it's not as bad as it could have been. That city's got some really good kharma.

Oh and the storm is now catagory 3. Yay! :) It's slowing down!

[EDIT2] I just watched a cnn reporter blow away. Thankfully, someone caught her.

[EDIT3] I just saw a reporter in alabama blow away, cursing the entire time. I've never heard so many *beeps* in a news report before.

[EDIT4] Another reporter blew away, this time from an early broadcast in new orleans. He ran out to canal street to get a better view, got hit by a metal pole, tried to run back to the building, and was literally THROWN into the air by the wind.

[EDIT5]On historic Jackson Square in the French Quarter, two huge oak trees toppled outside the 278-year-old St. Louis Cathedral. They fell on either side of a marble statue of Jesus Christ, snapping off just a thumb and forefinger on his outstretched hand. -- Associated Press

[EDIT6] Do something to help! Give blood!
GENERAL GUIDELINES
To give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.

I used to give blood. (Don't make the weight limit anymore.) It only hurts for a second. And they give you a cookie and juice afterwards. Sometimes even a sticker.

[EDIT7-shot below the belt] The mississippi governer was asked what the damage was in dollars for his state. He replied that it was higher than he can count. This is mississippi, folks. That number might not be high at all. He only has so many fingers and toes, after all.

Chris called me this morning. There's about 2-3 feet of water outside, but since his house is raised by 4 feet, he's still good. His house is shaking, but still in one piece. He has no power, his cell phone still alive for now. Funny how he could call me. I can't call him back now. But his alive don't worry. Good thing I check his lj friends ^^

Harry Potter is ok. I've been on the phone with him and his brother all morning. Surprisingly both the landline phone and their cell phones are still working.

Last I checked, the cams downtown (http://www.nola.com/bourbocam/) weren't working.

Oh, wait, you meant of flying reporters? No, sorry. I caught them all on cnn, which is playing in the background.

ISn't it crazy to see pictures of places you've been to, that are damaged? It makes me sad. I miss my city. I'm glad its not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I figured everything would be under 20+ feet of water. I'm so glad that's not the case.

It looks like your home was in the "not massively underwater section" of the city. Hope it's still there when you get home.
