I forgot to mention ben and I'd attempt to buy decongestants yesterday!

Last time we went to buy some, all we could find was this awful stuff that didn't have any of the ingredients needed to actually, you know, decongest. Since that time I discovered that the pharmacy keeps the real stuff behind the desk. I assumed it was to keep kids from buying it or something.

So this time we go to the desk and ask for the medicine. I'm not all surprised when they ask for my ID. I thought they were checking to make sure I was old enough. But then the pharmacist starts taking down my info in this book she has! After writing down my name, address, and personal info like that, I have to sign the book before I can take the pills.

I'm pretty sure that was a complete violation of my privacy.

Now I want to know who gets the info in that book.

that isn't right.... that's what i'd expect if you're buyign a gun..not decongestant

though it would bother me even mroe if it was fro birth control...

Well, if it's prescription birth control then they already have all your information. :P

Because those ingredients you need to decongest can be used to make crystal meth. That's why they're behind the counter and that's why they asked for the ID.

VA is participating in Meth Watch, public-private partnership between retailers and law enforcement to stop the diversion of legitimate products containing pseudoephedrine to the illegal manufacture of meth.

There's also some federal initiative to curb meth production, and that's probably why your address was taken. Between the Meth Watch and the initiative, your information can probably be accessed by feds if you're suspected of manafacturing meth, but I doubt it will be used or accessed by anyone else besides the pharmacy (like regular prescription information).

That's dumb. A better thing to do is monitor how many boxes of medicine are sold in a particular store/area. If it's unusually high, then they can look closer. But to watch every single person's purchases?

It makes me want to go out and buy a case of this stuff. Just to make the feds freak out.

"Meth, officer? No, my boyfriend has terrible sinus problems."

I don't like feeling like a criminal when I haven't done anything wrong.

Make sure when you buy the cases, you buy other meth ingredients, like matches, propane tanks, etc. Tell them Ben has terrible sinus problems and you're having a barbeque to celebrate.

Well, we'd be celebrating his quick recovery, thanks to medication that actually works! (Seriously, the stuff we got last time was just a sugar pill.)

Thanks! I will pass that on to the boy. He has such horrible sinus problems. It seems like even a speck of dust in the air and he's stuffed up for a week.

..and lots of other places. i suggest going and reading about it if you want to get pissed off. then go volunteer for the ACLU or something. :)

They can easily keep track of this stuff by seeing what stores in an area sell rather than what individuals buy. There's really no need to keep track of us like criminals.

I already give money to the ACLU. They don't seem to want volunteers too often. Just money. (Lawsuits are expensive!)

louisiana does the same thing. i mostly find that it's an irksome inconvenience to have to go to a store that has a pharmacy (i.e., the rite aid on the corner of st. charles and broadway can't help you out).
