Aug. 4th, 2006 10:41 amSo I came into work today and the email server thingie was down. I didn't know how to fix this problem (I didn't even know where that server was!) so I called my boss and asked what I should do. He told me to restart it.
I didn't have permissions to restart the server the proper way, so I just pressed the reset button. It's a windows machine, it should be fine, right?
Restarting the server didn't work. So my boss calls the tech guy and tells him there's a problem. The tech guy calls me and asks what's wrong. I was a good girl and told him more than, "It doesn't work!" I made sure to tell him what specifically doesn't work, what I did, and all the error messages along the way.
And the tech guy yells at me. Tells me that I did a dumb thing and that I should have never restarted the server because now I've corrupted the data. I just went, "Oh..." on the phone and started to cry a little. I hate getting yelled at. Especially when I didn't know I was doing something wrong.
If it was a bad thing to restart the server, he should have put a sign there. Or at least told someone. Especially considering it has a restart button on it. Maybe put a little note over the button saying, "Don't restart!"
Ben says I didn't do anything wrong and that I shouldn't get upset. I trust ben's computer knowledge over this guy's. But I really hate being yelled at.
[EDIT] Ben was right, of course. I didn't break anything. The tech guy have come and gone and everything is working fine now.
