This morning was good. Ben and I slept late, had a good breakfast, and then I watched ben play video games for a bit.

Then we made the unfortunate decision to go to the mall. We should have stayed home. :(

First there were sign issues because the signs in Virginia are terrible. After that, traffic. And then I got pulled over by the cops. Why? Because I didn't have a VA safety and inspection sticker. And I got a ticket for it. It's going to cost me nearly $100 since I can't contest it in court. Why not? The court date is right during my California trip!!!

Now before you yell at me for not getting the car inspected, here is why I didn't:

If your vehicle is being registered for the first time in Virginia and has a current valid emissions certificate (performed in the last 12 months) from one of the following states, it may be titled and registered without a Virginia emissions inspection:

Arizona
California
Colorado
Connecticut
District of Columbia
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Maryland
Massachusetts
Missouri
New Jersey
New York
Noth Carolina
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Texas
Utah
Washington
Wisconsin

So yeah, I cried the whole rest of the way to the mall. :(

Then I grumped at ben the whole time, probably ruining his day. He had offered to treat me to lunch before we left the house, but by the time we got to the mall, I was too angry to eat. We bought some books and kitchen gadgets, and then was too fed up with the mall layout to stay any longer.

On the way home, I missed my turn. Then tried to turn around only to end up far off course and backtracked. Then missed the turn again. Had to turn around some more. Finally made my turn and made it home.

I have no intention of ever leaving the apartment ever again. Bad things happen when I leave. If I had my way, the next time I leave will be to leave Virginia forever. I hate this place so much. I can't stand it. I already told ben that if he is ever offered another job in another state, he should take it in an instant. I want out of here now. Virginia is killing me.

Can't you ask for another court date if you are going to be out of town during the one assigned? If not that seems a bit... bad. You should at least be able to ask to have it after you get back or something, one would think.

up here, at least, you can totally get your courtdate changed, given howrandomly they are assigned people often can't make them.

Here, too. You should see if you can get one earlier.

I'll probably just mail in the fine. :( It's not like I'd be able to change their mind on the stupid thing.

It probably doesn't matter. It's not like I'll be able to change their minds about the ticket. Might as well not waste my time.

if that's what the DMV page says, then you are pretty clearly in the right andwill probably get the ticket voided. Police officersdo not know every regulation, and they makemistakes. that's why their word is not final and they have this whole court process.

usually people don't bother contesting tickets, so when they do, they actually have decent odds of succeeding. and i hear often thepolice officer won't show, in which case i think you basically win by defualt.

You can do it! Try your best, anime girl style!

I probably make more money than I'd lose going to court. And I don't think I can really argue anything. They're going to tell me I was wrong no matter what I say. :(

i think emissions inspections are different from safety inspections.

They are done at the same time though, so I got confused. I need to figure out where miscommunication happened when I got my car. Wouldn't a new car be given thise stickers automatically?

Whatever the reason, it's just one more to the long list of bad things that have happened to me since I've moved here.
