The story behind the corn poll.
Until I moved to va, I had never seen a store leave out a trash can to husk the corn in the store. I don't understand the point of it. Once you take the husk off, the kernels start to dry out, and when they dry out, they start losing their sweetness. But moist sweet corn is so good! So why sabotage that?
For those that husk their corn in the store, you are missing out. Especially on grilled corn, which is super tasty alongside other bbq treats.
Grilled corn Recipe:
- Soak your corn (with the husks on) for 15 minutes in water. It's ok to remove some of the husk if it's really thick, especially if the top silk is unruly, but you want to leave a good size layer of husk on the corn.
- Put corn on the bbq over a high heat. (Right there with the burgers and hot dogs. It won't hurt them.)
- Turn corn 1/4 every 5 minutes.
- Take off heat and let rest for 5 minutes. (The hardest part!)
- Remove husk. Top corn with your favorite butter, salt, soils, etc.
Also, if you like your corn to have a little bit more of a grilled taste, pull back the husk right before you rest it and give the corn a brief run over the flame naked. But put the husk back on to rest.
If you want to do it in the oven instead, grill it at 425-450 degrees for about 30 minutes.
No tinfoil waste created and the bottom of the husk works as a handle when you eat! Yay!

I guess the plastic produce bags would keep the moisture in OK, but they'd probably be easier to get a bit battered and bashed without that protection as well... You wouldn't peel your oranges before take them home, I don't know why you'd do it with corn. XD;;

Sorry to make you hungry!
