My mother is back on the DJ thing. "But how will the guests know what to do? Who's going to introduce you as mr and mrs? What if the guests start to leave?"
1. Guests are not stupid. If there's food, they will eat it. If there's music, they will dance to it. they don't need someone telling them what to do.
2. If a guest arrives at the wedding, sits through the ceremony, and then doesn't realize ben and I are mr and mrs at the reception, I want that guest to leave immediately. There are too stupid to live, and they may forget to breath at some point.
3. If a guest wants to leave, I will let them. If they find the food and music to be boring, they should not be forced to suffer. I will thank them for the time they did stay and send them off because who wants an unhappy person at their wedding?
I can't stand djs. And my mom wants me to hire one for the main reasons I don't want one!

Date: 2009-03-13 06:36 pm (UTC)most of her concerns seem overblown, but i have been to weddings where people didn't know when to start dancing and when it was just for the bride and groom.
does she actually think the guests will leave because there isn't a DJ? that's crazy. how do you plan to indicate "okay, reservation over, time to clear out"? i think that is usually handled by "last dance, thanks for coming" announcement. make an announcement yourself? (i'm sure there is a fine non-dj way to handle this, i am just curious)

Date: 2009-03-13 07:51 pm (UTC)For when the party is ending, I figured ben and I would grab a mike and ask everyone to join us in a final dance. Which is way classier than most weddings I've been to where the dj plays "Last Dance" and then packs up and leaves without any further announcement.
And I'm totally not worried if people start dancing during "bride groom dancing time." I'm actually floating around the idea of having everyone dance with us during the first dance anyway. Does anyone actually ENJOY watching the couple sway back and forth awkwardly for about 5-10 minutes?

Date: 2009-03-13 08:01 pm (UTC)There probably won't be many announcements to make, but I'll try to have them all written up by the day and I'll try to split them up between lots of people. It'll all work out great and my mom will see there was nothing to worry about. :)
