my advice to you, match up the center of the flat fabric and the comb. gather the fabric and sew it onto the comb at the same time. This helps it come out more even.
My problem is more getting it the right length and shape. The gathering and comb attaching went fine. And then it was massively too short. And the back was significantly shorter than the sides. T_T I'm horrible at drafting patterns for three dimensional objects...
