Garden Update
Apr. 18th, 2009 12:40 pmLettuce - Has been outside for about 2 weeks now. Looks no taller than when I put it out, but does look a little healthier. I think having a place for the roots to spread out has helped. I wish they would start looking like heads of lettuce though.
Tomatoes - Are due to go outside next week. I have been "abusing" them slightly every day so that they will be ready to handle the transplant. I researched why my tomatoes always fall over and die when they are transplanted, and learned it was because tomatoes are super lazy. So it's suggest you brush your hand over them once or twice a day to force them to grow stronger stems. I hope it works.
Cucmbers - Also due to go outside next week. They only just started getting their second set of leaves though, so I'm not sure they will actually go out. They have also been getting the tomato abuse treatment just in case. They look pretty sturdy though. [EDIT] Of course right after I say that, I notice all my cucumbers have mysteriously fallen over. They have now been propped up with more dirt. Hope that helps.
Carrots - Seeds planted on Thursday. I was supposed to plant them weeks sooner, but I felt like it was too cold. Especially in pots which don't hold onto warmth as well as real earth. So far nothing, but it has only been a couple days.
Strawberries - Went outside yesterday. Planted 3 of them. I think I might buy another pot and plant 3 more. This variety is supposed to flower a lot, which will attract bees for my other plants. The bumble bees have already stopped by a few times to check out the just opening strawberry blossoms.
