Large immovable objects
May. 23rd, 2009 11:17 pmDay 1 of our Balticon weekend has been completed.
Ben and I woke up ridiculously early. (6:30!!!) I think it was a combination of going to bed early plus excitement.
Due to some confusion schedule, we got to the con way too early as well. I thought there was a movie I wanted to see at 11:15 today. It's actually tomorrow at that time. The next thing I wanted to do wasn't until noon and we got there around 10:30 so we had a lot of time to kill.
We tried the dealer's room, but there wasn't much to see. It was mostly books, but I've forbidden myself from buying more books until I catch up a little on what I already have. There was also some nice leather stuff (leather notebooks!), but I really want to reduce my purchases of both leather products (for the sake of the animals) and notebooks (I already have a ton I haven't used).
We eventually killed the time in the anime room watching full metal alchemist. We saw a terrible episode where a guy merges his daughter and her dog together. I did not like it at all.
Eventually it was time for our panel, which was about literature in gaming, but it wasn't very good.
Some good panels were the dinosaur panel (feathers might have been found on more dinosaurs than previously though!) and the neurotoxins panel (soman is scary stuff). I also somewhat liked the panel on modifying patterns. I didn't actually learn anything new from it, but I got some good ideas for costumes of my own.
We tried to go to a filk show in the evening, but it was one of the guys from FuMP that I don't like. Too bad, cause I do like some of the guys there, like tv's kyle and marc gunn.
So we went home instead. The drive was a bit scary because we got stuck in pretty bad traffic for a few miles with a very low gas tank. We managed to make it though, with the low tank light not going on until we pulled into our apartment complex. Woo!
My dog had an exciting day too with two visits by the dog walker. He gave her a scoop of wet food as a snack, which I NEVER do, so this was probably the best day ever for her. She missed us though and is cuddling me very hard.
Sleep is probably needed now so I can get to the con early AGAIN, but this time I am sure the movie I want to see is tomorrow.
