Why are so many people reacting so violently to the V-week stuff on the quad?

They're raising awareness about violence against women. And if they ahve to use shock tactics to get your attention, maybe that says something about society, not the program itself.

A couple people today have grumbled something along the lines of 'Why isn't there a P-week?" Well, in case you haven't noticed, every week of the year seems to be P-week.

If there was no reason for these women to get together in the quad, then they wouldn't be there. I'm tired of people complaining about them. Next time you go to say something, think about what it all actually means, and what your complaint says about women in general.

Or it could be that the whole week is so cravenly PC it's detestable. Yes, I understand what it goes for...yes, I think it's a good cause. Doesn't mean I want to hear -Lilith Fair- Music shit blaring into my room from the quad. But that's my two cents, buy yourself a comic.

What exactly do you ahve against women artists? There are quite a large amount of very good ones. Not everyone's tastes are going to match yours. I didn't mind the music playing today.

I didn't say I had anything against Women artists. I said I had a thing against -Lilith Fair- music. Which in general is whiney bitch music that could be easily linked to Country. And I didn't -say- anything about people's tastes. I said -I- don't want to hear it, that means they could turn the shit down so I don't have to hear it through the walls of the building. That's all I'm saying. ^.^ Back to studying.

1)I'm wondering what you're basing your idea of "Lilith Fair music" on. Having been to a few LF's myself, I can assure you that much of the music there was far from the whiney bitch music you describe.
2)Would you have had as much of a problem if they were playing "macho guy music" or whatever it is that floats your boat at the same volume as the "shit" that you were subjected to today?

ARG. I give up. >.<; And I listen to -good- music. Aerosmith. Metallica. Mozart. Beethoven. And you know what? YES. I would have. I was trying to study.

Why the Arg? I agree with most of your nominations for the label "good music" (I'm not much of a Metallica fan.) I've been to an Aerosmith concert, listened to a fair bit of Metallica, and have played both Mozart and Beethoven on the piano. But your criticism of the "LF music" seems a little unfounded given your inaccurate generalization. The last LF included such diverse performers as Queen Latifah and Me'shell Ndegeocello. So my reason for making my first comment was just to caution... don't make generalizations you're not prepared to back up.
However, your response to my second question seems to negate that entire line of thought. If you were angry that music was being played too loudly (I don't doubt that it was too loud; I too have experienced this sort of noise invasion), then you should have said that instead of resorting to a rhetorically weak ad hominem attack on a genre with which you demonstrate little familiarity.
I'm not trying to start a fight... this is just the Philosopher in me coming out, baited by personal interest and a little bit of Nyquil.
Food for thought, food for thought.

And unlike you, Dayquil (Nyquil with amphetamine) breaks down my brain so I can't make such elegant comments. What was supposed to be an interesting comment has since broken down into something I didn't mean. Anyway, like I said, I'm back to studying.

Anyway, now that the Dayquil has worn off, I would like to note that to me, LF music consists of any person who has played at LF itself. Which in total includes mostly musicians I have no taste for. Granted, not all of it is as I said when I was rather out of it. However, I don't like the musicians, I think I was trying to say that the voices sound rather high pitched, and if you aren't paying attention to the words, they sound rather like they are whining. I'm not trying to make an excuse for my gross generalization, but too me, that is what I hear. Besides, I personally think it's tasteless to be referring to any part of anatomy constantly and so out of place and context. Anyway, now I'm done with my food for thought, I think I've said my peace.

What penis-bestowed privilege does [livejournal.com profile] shiroiakuma have?

So far I've heard "every week seems to be P-week". Catchy, but I'm not sure I could dance to it. There is a difference between a hierarchical society oppressing certain groups, and an oppressed group organizing to agitate for a particular cause.

Speaking of which, what is the cause, here? Women would like for men to listen to more whiny female singer-songwriters, eat more erotic baked goods, and stop raping them? I can't tell whether this a party or a protest.

Women would like for men to listen to more whiny female singer-songwriters,

To bring awareness of femail song-writers. Not ALL are whiny. That's a biased claim.

eat more erotic baked goods,

Sold to raise money for a Violence Against Women group.

and stop raping them? I can't tell whether this a party or a protest.

Why can't it be both? These women belive their cause and love it. So they are having a great time. (You should have seen how excited my roommate was at the end of the day when she told me how much they had raised so far.)

All music becomes whiny when I am aware that it is being blasted across the quad.

> Why can't it be both?
Ideally a party doesn't involve bringing the guests along via a guilt-trip, and theoretically a protest is against an institutionalized rather than personally-perpetrated wrong. From the descriptions given here, this sounds like another intrusive quad concert combined with a slightly heavy-handed canvasing campaign, culminating in a bake-sale for charity.

I'm always dissatisfied with implementation details, but I'm ultimately for it. I must like vaginality, or I wouldn't spend so much time hunting down things like "Princess Tutu". Think of Utena and CCS with *ballet duels*. Fear.

Was the music really that loud? My room faces that part of the quad and I didn't find it obtrusive at all. In fact, at the time I was writing an essay and the volume of the music didn't affect me at all. I had to strain to hear what was playing at times. So I think people are over exagerating when they say the music was blasting.

don't insult country music like that. lilith fair music is pretentious, slightly whiny, boring soft rock/folk done by lesbians/feminists who don't see that they're part of the problem.

just like all feminists.
