Dec. 9th, 2003 08:22 pmHelp! Someone who is smart with computers!
My comp keeps shutting itself off. It gets waaaaay too hot and just turns off. I am pretty positive that's a BAD thing.
The question is, can it be fixed? What do I ahve to do?
[EDIT: I ahve no clue where the fan is or what it looks like. I am an idiot. Also, the little box with all the wires coming out is the REALLY hot part. It burns my skin, it's so hot. That's probably a bad thing, right?]
[EDIT: Found the fan. But now my comp is humming. GRRR! I don't know what I'm doing wrong! somebody help me!]

Date: 2003-12-09 06:29 pm (UTC)If the fan isn't working, could I get a new fan?
And will the fan be really obviously visable?
This is all so confusing....

Date: 2003-12-09 06:44 pm (UTC)if the problem is with your fan, which it sounds like it is, the part can be replaced. you might want to take it to somewhere that specializes in repairs though... i'd be a little reluctant to do it myself, and i've mucked with insides of computers before. (only a little, but still. yeah. best to leave the mucking to the professionals.)

Date: 2003-12-09 07:31 pm (UTC)Go ahead and check the fan. Watch out for static (i.e., touch the metal frame frequently) and don't touch any of the circuitry and you'll be fine. But don't let the internal cables touch the blades while it's spinning, they are usually really flimsy, and I've destroyed fans that way.

Date: 2003-12-09 07:54 pm (UTC)2. The part that is getting really hot is the little box with lots of colored wires coming out of it. That's bad, right?
