My aim refuses to stop playing those stupid audio ads. Every time I turn one off, another starts. Honestly, I don't mind having an ad at the top of that window. I understand that I'm getting a nifty thing for free. And sometimes they tell me good things, like lotr contests. But these loud ads must die. *stabity*

I need to finish work and this essay so I can go to bed.

How about an AIM with no ads? And lots of nifty features?

Besides! It has the neko seal of approval!

Gaim is good. I use it for all instant messaging. I also know where to get Trillian Pro at a 100% discount. Both are multi-protocol and therefore multi-nifty.

If journal owner is really attached to the official client, it might be possible to do some networking voodoo to block the ads via the operating system.

You can do that? Cool... I learn about new stuff everyday.

There's a good chance that trying to block the ad will block all AIM traffic, though. It depends on whether or not the ad is coming from the AIM server.

Oh, that would be bad then. Never mind.

Hey. We might fail, but the only thing we lose in the attempt is our ignorance. Besides, these people report that DNS circumvention via the hosts file (which is what I was referring to) does indeed work in this case.

And you should try GAIM sometime just because it's cool.

Ads

The way i've been beating the ads (at least on my stupid defunct HP) is to have music playing when I sign on. a different ad will come up on aim that has no sound (because it knows it can't play the sound).

I wish that worked on mine. Instead I get two sounds dueling with each other. It's always really freaky. I sit there and go, "I don't remember the song going like that...."

Thanks. I love GIR.

I'm thinking of coming to see the anime thing for about an hour-hour and a half. That is, if my hair ever dries.
