I don't mean to dissapear. I've just been busy! ^^;

So let's see.... Friday was my last day of classes. I was wonderfully, gloriously freeeee! And knowing that I had 9 days of freedom made going to parades that night extra shiny.

I went to Hermes and D'etat that night with soooo many people. Jenny, katie, chris (non-harry potter), kelly, and charlie. The parades weren't very good, but the company was, so it's all ok.

Hermes had some really cool floats. They did a Pandora's Box theme, and wow, some of those floats were REALLY nifty. I wish I had taken some pictures, but the one at night rarely come out very well. Throw-wise, not too good, but as the opening parade one doesn't expect too much.

D'etat's floats weren't that good, and neither were their throws. A bunch of throws were broken or didn't work. I had wanted skull beads, which I got, but they didn't blink. So sad! A non-blinking skull! D'etat didn't throw much of anything though, so I should appreciate what I've got. I think [livejournal.com profile] docbrite wrote about it all best: These dreams may have been fever-phantoms brought on by the extreme disappointment of Krewe d'Etat, one of the worst parades I've ever seen. I expected a great deal from this parade; they're known for their incisive political/social satire, and their floats are designed by the venerable Carnival historian Henri Schindler. Well, the floats looked all right, but the satire was mostly stale and unfunny (Hey, didja know J. Edgar Hoover was a drag queen? Hey, didja know Michael Jackson is a weirdo who has sleepovers with little boys?). Muses' satire was far funnier and more topical. Worst of all from a parade-goer's standpoint, the d'Etat riders were very stingy with their throws, and about a third of the beads they did throw were broken! Not broken by grappling revelers, but broken before they ever left the float! This is a disgrace I cannot adequately explain to anyone who hasn't been going to Mardi Gras parades for most of his or her life, but I'll try: Catching an intact string of beads is like catching a handful of treasure. You know it's only a cheap piece of plastic, but there is a kind of transsubstantiation that occurs during parades, and for that hour or so, it is treasure. Catching a broken string of beads is like catching a handful of garbage. It's inexcusable.

After the parades I went with charlie and kelly to see roze and scott cause I haven't seen anyone in forever. But I was sooooooo massively tired. I was falling asleep on the floor. So charlie and kelly drove me home. I got to campus only to discover....... MY BUILDING FLOODED!

Yup. A pipe exploded or something in my building and because they were afraid the wet wires in the building would spark and cause a fire, they didn't let anyone back into the building until about 3am. Luckily jenny and katie (They're so cool!) came to my rescue and let me nap in their room for a few hours. Since jenny was at work, she gave me a call when I could go back to my room. That was key because I was getting up super early for the enxt day parades and didn't want to wake them up early too. They need their sleep!

So yes, a strange ending to a strange day. The only other bit of noteworthy-ness from that day was the scale in jenny and katies bathroom. I have like an ocd when it comes to scales and I ahve to stand on them. So I discovered that during those several weeks when I wasn't eating anything, I lost over 15lbs. Funny I don't look it. Yeah, so anyway, now that I weigh less than 100, I've begun working on building that back up. I'm considerably less depressed lately. As I've been telling people, I've gone up in the friendship world. :) Things will get better.

So, anyway, shower and off to parades again. Slowly I'll be up-to-date. And I've got pictures! And Elijah Wood! So yes, much updating to do later! But cleanliness now. I smell like mardi gras. :P
