Life with a puppy is super busy. Let's see.

Saturday, we took Maggie and Noname to the vet. Noname needed some bloodwork done before I could start her on heartworm prevention meds. We have an INSANE number of mosquitoes in our yard and I was worried noname would catch something. Maggie needed her next booster shot and a general checkup.

Everyone at the vet thought maggie was the cutest thing in the whole world. Poor noname was ignored. But I gave her a squeeze. And ben took her to poop outside. So I don't think she was too upset.

Both dogs got a clean bill of health and medicine for fleas and heartworm. Maggie will be super happy when all her fleas are dead. (Most are actually already dead as of today.)

On sunday, ben took me out to buy parts for a new computer. My computer is starting to die. I was hoping it could hold out until giftmas, but it's nearly unusable right now. Sad...

Monday I returned to work after my lovely vacation. Of course everything I left to be done was not done and I spent the day scrambling to get things in. *sigh* I don't know what to do. What are they going to do once I finally find a new job?

Things got worse when I got home. We had locked maggie up in the kitchen because I felt my hours were too long to keep her in a cage. She escaped. And pooped on the floor. And then roomba started his monday afternoon cleaning routine...

Everywhere.

It was awful. I mopped the floors twice. And threw out a floor carpet. And hosed the other carpet down outside. I don't know what to do with roomba. Poop is caked into everything. It's horrible.

After that, I was pretty tired and annoyed, so I thought I would knit. But somewhere along my commute, I lost my knitting needles! I had to order a new set to finish the sweater. So annoying.

The rest of the evening was spent playing with maggie. She's still biting, but she's getting better. Slightly. I brought her up on the couch with me and she sat on my shoulder like a parrot. It was super cute. Too bad she won't stay little forever.
Work left me close to screaming and crying yesterday. I spent all morning fighting with our marketing agency to get the complete art for a package we are mailing out. They finally sent it over in the afternoon and the first thing I noticed was that the packages were missing our state registration disclaimers. When I pointed that out to them, they responded, "Oh, that's going to print on the inside of the envelope."

Ok....What part of "Send me all of the art for the entire package" is so very confusing???

So by the time I left the office, I was completely infuriated. And still hadn't seen all the art.

The ride home was also infuriating. Everyone was in such a hurry. For example, as I walked onto the train at a normal pace, a man behind me started shouting "Move move move MOVE!" until he could push by me. I am baffled at what he was in such a hurry to get to since the train goes at its own schedule. And then when ben was driving me home, he flicked his left turn signal on in order to change lanes. The woman in that lane but behind ben sped up to try to block him. When that didn't work, she honked at him. People around here need to realize they have to share the roads.

I was tired and cranky and depressed by the time we got home. And then I had to make dinner. I made that sun dried tomato and artichoke pasta that ben likes. At least that way one of us was happy.

I grumbled around the house for a bit, then took a shower and went to bed. I woke up in the early morning to the terrifying sounds of shuffling and banging downstairs. I woke ben up, thinking we were being robbed. Only after a few more minutes did I figure out what was really happening. Ben had accidentally set roomba to clean at 5 AM instead of PM.

When I finally went downstairs around 6:30, I found roomba wedged and stuck under the dishwasher. Poor roomba. Once I set him free, he finished his job and returned to his charger. I gave his a little "Good job!" shout to make him feel better about the whole getting stuck deal.

Work this morning continued to be frustrating. As you can probably guess, once the regs and disclaimers were sent over, they were wrong. It's a good thing I had them checked. Our agency was pushing me super hard all morning to approve the art without a proper review. I explained that I would absolutely not do that. Ever.

Psycho boss mentioned that they are pushing to put an amendment into our contract that says if they make a print error or miss a mail date, we don't have to pay them. I am baffled as to why this was never in the contract from the start. Does anyone review these things???

On a complete side note, I have become a master at killing fruit flies. Psycho boss brought in a houseplant infested with them. I can now grab a fly one-handed and smash it down on the table.
I was hitting the candy basket by 9:30 this morning at work. Our marketing agency has caused me to develop a bad teeth clenching habit. I've been chewing on candy to try to prevent me from cracking my teeth.

They sent me art of a May package. One piece of the package I had approved already because it required a longer production time. It was included with this art, they said, just to show me the full package. But the piece I approved looked nothing like it should have. And I started to worry they went off and printed whatever they wanted, totally disregarding what I told them to do.

In the end, they had just sent the wrong art to me. But that's just another problem I have with them. Our account reps don't review anything they send over, so there are constant mistakes. They are going to kill me with stress.

The whole day was like that. One crisis after another, because the marketing agency is too dumb and careless the check what they are sending to me.

At the end of a long, long day, I finally got to go home. But of course there were tourists to battle against. And then it was pouring raining. It was raining so hard, the park and ride flooded and I had trouble jumping over the river of water to get to the car.

The only good news of the day is that ben fixed roomba. He had been sick, making a clunking noise as he cleaned and then stopping early to demand a brush cleaning. He couldn't even clean one room. Ben replaced his brushes today, which appears to have fixed the problem. Aside from getting trapped in the bathroom again, roomba did a perfect job cleaning this evening.
Noname vs Roomba

Recently, ben and I adopted a roomba. I am enthralled by it. It reminds me every day of how awesome it is to live in the future.

Every friday afternoon, our little roomba scurries around the house, happily picking up dirt and dust. If a room is particularly messy, he'll make sure to stay in the area to get everything. And when he's done, he returns himself to his little charging post and sings a little song of triumph.

However, ben and I are starting to be affected by the same malady all roomba owners experience. For example, I will call it "he" at times. I called it "Roomba" like a name instead of "the roomba" like a product. In the morning before I leave for work on fridays, I walk around the house picking up dirt, shoes, and papers because I'm worried he'll choke on them. And as soon as I get home on friday evenings, the first thing I do is make sure roomba is ok.

Once time, we came home to roomba choking on a plastic bag. Ben wanted to tell roomba to go to his charging station and rest, but I stopped him saying, "If we let him slack off like this, he's never going to learn." So ben told roomba to finish cleaning before he could rest.

Yes. Tough love. For a robot.

So anyway, if you're ever curious how humans will interact with increasingly sophisticated household robots in the coming years, take a look at a roomba owner.

Meanwhile, ben and I are contemplating adopting another one for upstairs. My biggest worry? What will I name it?
Noname has used the yard twice today. I'm so proud of her.

Roomba is cleaning the floors. I can hear it knocking stuff over in the hallway.

I have had a lazy day. Last night ben woke me because I was crying in my sleep. I was dreaming that he was choking me. I did a bit of unpacking this morning. I removed a shelf in one of the kitchen cabinets and now have room for my flat baking pans. And then I paid all my student loans for the month.

I think in a little bit I will work on cleaning off the dining room table. It has tons of papers all over it. Most of them are junk mail. I wish the trash company would deliver our trash and recycle bins already.
RiT:P is proof that one should never judge a book by its cover.

I saw this book at a library book sale and had to have it. Robots! I thought to myself. And dinosaurs! There's no way this could be anything but awesome!

Oh how wrong I was.

I don't know how this writer was given permission to put a story in Asimov's universe, but he totally did not deserve it. After some research, I learned that it was published after his death. Probably the first draft of this book killed him. (I kid. It's not that bad.)

The book is written like a child's guide to robotics. And by that I mean they mention at least one of the three laws on each page, and make a point to explain what the law means. ON EACH PAGE.

In addition to childishly overstating the three laws, the characters in the book act like total grade-schoolers. Two of the characters, the paleontologist and the survival expert totally hate each other right from the start because one is a nerd and one is a jock. Seriously? These are grown men. Professionals! Does the author really expect me to believe two people like that would hate each other as first sight?

I was really disappointed that this book was so bad because it's actually the first in a series. And the next volume is about PIRATES. I have learned my lesson though. Awesome cover does not make an equally awesome book.
Yesterday, there were very few crowds on the bus and train, plus no breakdowns, so I actually got to work on time. My boss' response? "You're here early!"

Oh well. At least it was a good opportunity to explain why I'm always late without sounding like I'm making excuses. I told her what a nice friday surprise it was that the trains didn't break down.

The rest of the day was the usual busy. Put out lots of fires. Made a couple people's day.

Oh! If you live in nyc or are going there over thanksgiving, check out our ad in times square! Exciting!

Near lunch time, I send out an email that basically said, "Free holiday cards in room 611." I spent the rest of the day telling people who came to my desk that the cards are in room 611. No one reads! It got to the point where if someone started to approach my desk, I'd yell out the room number. Then they'd turn and leave, looking embarrassed.

The metro didn't bread down on the way home either. It was very nice. But of course, all that good luck had to catch up with me.

As soon as my bus pulled out of the station, it had to stop. The only road we could take to leave the station was stopped like a parking lot for as far as we could see. For about 30 minutes, we didn't move at all. The bus driver turned up the radio so we could listen to all the other bus drivers in the area talk about how they weren't moving either.

Finally a guy ahead of us said that he had started moving, but not by much. Just a crawl. But a crawl was better than nothing!! We crawled for 15 minutes, finally passing by the horrific accident that closed every lane but one. The cars involved were completely crunched up, and one had been on fire I think.

I was very tired and cranky when I got home, but ben made me dinner and then we watched a science special about my favorite robots in the universe, the mars rovers. It was part of the Naked Science series. It expires on hulu tonight, so I suggest everyone rush out and watch it!

It's all about how Oppy gets handed every achievement but Spirit has to climb mountains (in the snow! uphill! both ways!) to achieve anything. Spirit really did climb a mountain. Well, a hill. But it would be a mountain if you were a small robot. And she got stuck in a ditch on the way.

Oppy, on the other hand, crawled out of her landing crate and immediately found proof of water. Day 1! It's stuff like this that makes me feel like I have to cheer for Spirit. She needs all the help she can get!

Speaking of help... FREE SPIRIT! She's stuck again! But on monday, NASA started sending her directions on how to get out. They've been working on this problem for a long time, so I hope it works!
