Ok, I took a picture of the terrible beach dress.

Beach dress in progress

There's a terrible bulge under each armpit. And if you look down the center, the center fans at the top do not line up with the fans below it.

To fix both of these problems, I would need to rip everything apart. I definitely can't wear it the way it is now though. It's embarrassing. :( I wish I had noticed how bad the first row looked back when I had just started. I sorta hoped it would fix itself out as I went along. Instead, it became more obvious.

How long did it take you to get this far? I mean, I think frogging and re-doing it, especially now that you've got the stitch pattern mastered, would be the ideal option, but if it's taken you months to get this far and you don't have that kind of time, then I'd say either try blocking it (though maybe it's not a blockable material - what type of yarn is it?) or scrap it.

I started it slightly less than a year ago, but actual time working on it has only been about a month. (I'm about 50% done at this point.) A lot of that time was learning how to read the pattern, so it would definitely go faster a second time around.

The yarn is about 50/50 rayon/cotton. Blocking might fix the lumps under the armpits but the fans would still be off-center in the front...

I guess it depends on how much the off-center fans bother you. Sounds like either frogging or ditching are the two prime options, as the next commenter pointed out; if you don't like it enough to wear it, what's the point in finishing?

if you're too embarrassed to wear it when it's done then there's no point to finishing it. You should restart.

Yeah, but I tend to think things I make are uglier than they really are, so I wasn't sure if I was being embarrassed over nothing.

well I think it will be okay but my point is if you're not comfortable wearing it then you won't wear it.

Have you tried it on, yet?

Yes. That's how I noticed the armpits were saggy and the front was off-center.

Ahh. Then I vote for take it apart and try again. Now you know what the rows should look like, so you'll be able to see right away whether the first row is okay.

My general rule for frogging is that if its going to bug me that its wrong then I should rip it back, if not...then it can just stay as is.

I just realized that i didn't shift the pattern on a pair of socks i am making but since i figured i'm only going to be wearing them around the house...ripping back a heel and 32 rows of cuff I ain't gonna do.
