When I was little my mother was always yelling at me to eat more meat. She said that if I didn't eat lots of meat, my arteries would lose their elasticity and harden up. It never made much sense to me, so I ignored her.
So, do I send her this article?
New research suggests one reason vegetables may be so good for us – a study in mice found that a mixture of five common vegetables reduced hardening of the arteries by 38 percent compared to animals eating a non-vegetable diet.
I think I win. Again.

I suggested that maybe my mother should provide other sources of protein, like maybe beans. He didn't like those suggestions but all he ever replied was, "Try to eat more meat."
