I finally broke 60 sit ups! Woo!

I had been stuck in the 50 range for a while now, but today I did a very respectable 63. Those last 3 were pretty tough though.

My goal is 200, so I can't celebrate too much. I have a long long way to go.

I mostly do crunch type ab work, so I was curious myself to see how many sit ups I could do. I got to 24 before I gave up.

Yay! Go you! I was curious to see how I compare to other people since I consider myself very out of shape. When I first started, I had trouble doing FIVE. It was embarrassing.

That's funny, I consider myself in pretty good shape. I exercise almost every day. The sit ups mainly affected my obliques, it was weird, they were all puffed up when I stopped.
I'm more interested in endurance, like, "can I get up this hill without huffing and puffing", rather than targeting a single muscle group.

I hate running more than almost anything in the world, so I've never been very good at anything that makes me huff and puff.

Right now I have a mix of sit ups, yoga, and light aerobics. Mostly I want to improve my balance and posture. The stronger my back and stomach muscles get, the less my super curvy spine hurts me. Yay!

Sit-ups actually aren't that great for you. They put a lot of strain on your back, and anything that jerks your muscles around in the same repetitive motion is very likely to give you a nasty injury. It's better to do a variety of slow and controlled ab exercises, which is why yoga is so great. Just sayin'.

Technically I'm doing crunches, which are supposed to be safer than sit ups. I am pretty cautious about back strain since my spine is so curvy and broken already.

It's also not the only exercise I'm doing. Just the only one with an achievement I can currently brag about. I'm also doing yoga and a mix of aerobics. But what can I really say about yoga? (Today I achieved a perfect breathing rhythm while doing the half moon pose.) Maybe if I ever touch my toes, that will be worth mentioning. (3 more inches to go!)
