I'm feeling pretty good about myself. I fixed my computer yesterday nearly all by myself. Ben mostly sat on the side and offered advice when I asked for it.

I took the old hard drive out, put the new one in, and reinstalled ubuntu. I upgraded all the way up to the latest version which finally fixed a display issue I was having with the monitor. Yay!

Then I made wheat bread, curry, and curry pan. I was quite productive! I didn't make waffles though because I ran out of eggs and flour on the curry pan. Oh well. I have cereal to last be some time until I stock up on more.
So my hard drive died yesterday right after we returned from the computer store. My computer is very inconsiderate.

I had not backed up my computer since before the cruise, so I was upset about potentially losing all those pictures. Well, sorta losing. The raws are all still on my camera, and the ones I nicely cropped are all on flickr, but it would have been a pain to have to download them all back onto my computer later.

Ben did some magic with an ubuntu live cd and is now transferring all the files to the network so we can replace the hard drive. Some of the files aren't making it, probably because the server is barely limping along, but most of what I'm losing are pictures that I uploaded to flickr. So that's not too bad. Five or six pictures instead of a hundred? I can live with that.

To thank him, I made ben a 5 minute chocolate cake drizzled in warm chocolate syrup. :)

In other news, we saw kick-ass today. It was ok. About half the movie was cool action stuff and the other half was embarrassing teenager stuff. If it was just the action, I would have liked it a lot better. I spent a lot of time hiding my face being embarrassed for the characters. When the movie was over, my face hurt from all the blushing. Hit-Girl was cool though. In a creepy way.
Our IT dept frustrates me.

I asked them to do two simple tasks: 1) Create a user account on our ftp site for one of our artists, and 2) Create a folder for that account so they can put all their art in one place.

IT did 1 but not 2 and then closed the ticket!

So I reopened the ticket and asked them to please also create the folder. They respond back, "CAN'T YOU SEE IT WITH YOUR EYES???"

Grrr.... clearly I couldn't if I reopened the ticket.

It was fixed by the time he sent the response though. So at least I was able to do my job. I just wish IT would do theirs in a less rude way.

Outlook 2007 is sadware.

I have lost count of the number of times it has crashed today. From totally normal use! Deleting an email crashes it! Adding a flag to an email crashes it! Viewing my calendar crashes it!

Today it crashed and completely lost all my customized email-viewing settings. You can imagine how thrilled I am.

I've only been using outlook 2007 for two days now and I hate it. I am frustrated because I really do want to like it. It has features that I wished the older version had. I would be delighted to use these new features.

...If I could get them to work.

Guess what happens when I try? Yup. It crashes.
Driving has been mastered. So has the internet.

There was no traffic at all until I reached NY. Then traffic for many many hours. It filled me with great sadness.

When I got to my parents house, I had to do battle with the wireless network to get it to work on my laptop. As you can see, I was triumphant.

There is a new bed in my old bedroom. That relieves me because I didn't want to sleep on the bed my grandpa died in. However, it is far too tall for my dog. She is sad and helpless.

I am hoping there will be dinner soon. All I've eaten today was a peanut butter sandwich and half an orange. I could go for some real food.
I have installed TWO programs on my computer all on my own! :D Yay me!

And my trip to the comic book store was a fantastic success.

In other news, bad game ideas make me very sad inside.

It's a good thing I have a cute dog and a cute boyfriend to help me forget terrible things like that.
There are no drivers for my printer. :( I have a large expensive paperweight.
Behold! For I type from the computer I built myself!!!!

Ben bought all the parts for me and told me how to assemble them. Then he just watched to make sure I didn't break anything. I was super super careful.

Then I installed linux! All by myself! It was easy. Though, for a short while I thought I had messed up the wireless somehow. Turns out our network wasn't set up right, so it wasn't me. Yay!

There's still some stuff I want to fiddle with to get it all just as I like, but I did all the hard stuff already. So behold my might! I win all the geek points!

ROAR!!!! Tortuga is being evil and mean to me!

Every time I leave it alone for too long, my bt program crashes. Yakitate was supposed to be done by this evening, but now it looks like it won't be done until tomorrow.

I think Tortuga is mad at me for ignoring it for so long....
My dog is wearing a Hawaiian shirt and that makes me incredibly happy.

I am sleepy, but I should make a quick update. Work was weird because there was so little stuff for me to do that I was actually filing papers for one of their other companies. Also, I have been given a large pile of books to read. Oh, but I finally finished that website. When it is done I shall post a link and everyone will have to tell me how flawless the spelling and grammar is.

After work, ben and I went to the pina's to pick up stuff that my mom mailed to me. I expected several boxes but it turned out to be only one. Grrrr, I want my computer! I think she is holding it hostage. She says suspicious things like "when you come to visit, MAYBE you can take it back with you." *twtich* MAYBE? She also claims I never asked for the computer. And that she didn't know where it was. I pointed out that the COMPUTER was in the COMPUTER room.

I am sleeping and losing the ability to type well.

Ben and I watched Hero when we got home. I found it to be very slow. I never made it to the end. Maybe I'll watch the last scene, just to see what happens.

Driving ben to work was insane. I nit nearly every red light. I'm thinking of writing to the transportation people and pointing out that when the lights are set up that poorly it makes even the best cars incredibly fuel inefficient. I hate wasting all that gas stopping and starting for every light.

Tomorrow ben has a dentist appointment. He needs to get his wisdom teeth removed. I'm going to make him lots of soft foods to eat. Also, I'm going to bake cookies to bring with me to the north Virginia anime club thingie.I hope the people there will be nice and like me and not be creepy or boring. Ok, sleep now. Too tired to see the screen.
