Back-Tracking
Nov. 2nd, 2007 10:14 amLet's see. So the day before halloween we carved our pumpkin at work. I was unimpressed by it but the others were happy so that's good. It wasn't much of a challenge for me though.
When I got home I got to play with SCIENCE! by baking window cookies. I needed to experiment in order to find the correct baking time to ensure tasty cookies and clear candy windows. the correct formula was the full baking time minus 3 minutes for the cookies alone, and then add the crushed candy for the final 3 minutes. Yay science!
Halloween day, I wore my grim reaper costume. I think I looked fantastic. However, while on my way to work, I thought I had the wrong day. I didn't see anyone else with a costume! People are so boring. I got lots of compliments on my costume though.
Despite looking great, I only got 2nd place in the costume contest. (And we only got honorable mention in the pumpkin carving contest, but that was to be expected.) Marge Simpson won, which I guess makes sense because people will be more inclined to vote for the funny and familiar over um, death. I'm going to enter the costume in a few online contests, so maybe I'll win something there. (Which reminds me, I need to upload those pictures so I can enter before the deadline.)

Ben is tormenting my dog with sausage. She may explode.
But I think ben and I have solved our linux help problems. I am learning to ask the right questions, which means he's giving me the right answers. So I don't get frustrated! Yay!

Mar. 1st, 2007 08:44 amLast night ben and I went out to eat for our anniversary. We went to some place called Sweetwater Tavern because we had a gift card. (Not paying for dinner? Yes! Very cool!) It was pretty good. I was having some texture issues with my chicken because it was so insanely moist. It kinda freaked me out.
Then when we got home I tried out emusic and got very angry. I tried to get ben's help but I wasn't really communicating what I wanted very well so ben kept telling me to do the wrong thing. And then I'd get upset with him. But it was resolved in the end so it's all good.
We went to bed a little bit too late so it was hard getting up this morning. I need to go to bed earlier...
Tonight I have grand plans to go shopping and then make cookie dough. I'm going to bake it tomorrow night, but the recipe says the dough needs to chill for 3+ hours.
Also, my bird is tiny and full of hate for the world.

And my trip to the comic book store was a fantastic success.
In other news, bad game ideas make me very sad inside.
It's a good thing I have a cute dog and a cute boyfriend to help me forget terrible things like that.

Ben bought all the parts for me and told me how to assemble them. Then he just watched to make sure I didn't break anything. I was super super careful.
Then I installed linux! All by myself! It was easy. Though, for a short while I thought I had messed up the wireless somehow. Turns out our network wasn't set up right, so it wasn't me. Yay!
There's still some stuff I want to fiddle with to get it all just as I like, but I did all the hard stuff already. So behold my might! I win all the geek points!

Dec. 17th, 2006 03:30 pmI finished Howl's Moving Castle because I couldn't sleep last night. It's definitely another case of the book being better than the movie. Sophie is a much stronger character in the book. She's much more in charge of her fate. (Which is kinda funny because she keeps telling herself throughout the book that she can't fight her destiny when actually she does at every turn.)
By 3 I still wasn't asleep. Ben called and asked me to pick him up. He finished the maintenance window super early this month!
We had our late night/early morning breakfast at amphora and then came home. I was finally tired, but ben wasn't. I curled up on the couch to sleep while he picked out parts for my new computer.
I've decided I'm going to install ubuntu on it. All by myself. I'm going with a linux computer because I'm tired of microsoft and their super accusatory validation programs they keep trying to force on me. And I'm going to try to install it myself so I don't feel so helpless. In the past when ben installed linux for me, he never really explained how things worked. I felt like I had no control over my computer. I don't like that because it makes me afraid to use my computer. So I'm hoping that by doing everything myself, I'll have more confidence when I use my computer.
Anyway, went to bed after that and slept until about noon. Woke up to feed my dog. Got grumpy at my stupid laptop. Told ben I needed to get out today or I'd go crazy. Was asked to play video games with him. Got angry at zelda. Am now crazy and grumpy from sitting in the house and want to go scream and cry. :(
