Jan. 20th, 2013 07:24 amBen and I recently received our invites to Ingress, an arg that is super popular right now. So yesterday we went out to explore the world.
In the game, the world is filled with portals that release energy. You can also get items from them if you hack them. They are normally located in areas of culture and learning. The two factions battle for control of these portals and the regions between them.
We went to a local park that maintains the last stretch of Vestal's Gap road. It was a good location for learning about the game because nearly all the portals in that area were lined up in a row along the old road. We took advantage of that to practice hacking portals. We also tried a little bit of battle, but the enemy portals in that area were too strong for us at a beginner level.
Oddly enough, just as we left, another member of our faction showed up and took down most of the enemy portals. We must have missed him by minutes.
We're going to try to find more places we can go to grind like that. We won't be able to attack enemy portals until we are much stronger.
The only real issue is battery life. Ben's battery was dead after a very short amount of time. Mine was 50% used up by the time we got home. I'm not sure this game would work well for a full day of adventure without some sort of outlet break for lunch or something.
