Sooo tired! Busy weekends are fun though!

On Sunday, Jess and Tara and I went into DC. First we had the fun adventure of navigating the shuttles because metro was doing track maintenance on a big chunk of the line. The shuttle was supposed to take us to ballston, which has tons of ticket machines, but instead they took us to the stop after (virginia square, i think?) which had 3 ticket machines for the entire busload of people. Not cool. And then figuring out how much a ticket actually costs is always fun too!

But eventually we got on a train. We had a fun conductor who was warning people not to make him blind with their flash cameras and to not stick their crutches in front of the train.

Our first stop was the Botanic Garden. I had never seen it so full! I'm used to a fairly intimate experience because the place is normally so empty. But we were still able to enjoy it and see all the pretty flowers. I liked the super tiny flowers and the one that smelled like cinnamon chewing gum. Jess took over 100 pictures! Sooooo many flowers!

After that, we had lunch at the native american museum because fry bread. All the fry bread.

When lunch was over, we stopped at one of the hands-on exhibit tables to make hawaiian ti leaf bracelets. The lady at the table taught us how to twist the leaves into a cute little spiral. The leaves gushed water everywhere as you twisted them and made everything super sticky! But once the stickiness dried, the bracelet had a smooth, shiny hard coat to it. I think mine looks really nice. I'm going to wear it for as long as it lasts. Then it goes in the compost because the lady made us promise we would return it back to the earth once we were done with it.

From there we went to the natural history museum which was super packed. We bought tickets to the butterfly exhibit, but it wasn't as nice as it usually was. They didn't have any staff inside, so people were manhandling the poor butterflies. Poking them, picking them up, just generally abusing them. Finally a guy came in to bring people in line. The place cleared out pretty quickly after that, as tourists were annoyed they couldn't abuse the poor butterflies anymore. They really need to keep that room fully staffed on busy holidays. For the sake of the animals!

But other than that, the museum was good. We only looked at a few exhibits, but it was free so we can't complain. We saw rocks, mummies, dinosaurs, and human origins. It looks like they have started removing things from the dinosaur exhibit in preparation for the upcoming renovation. I look forward to that. The exhibit is really showing its age.

We were eventually kicked out of the museum for closing time, so we headed home. All went well until we had to catch the shuttle again. Despite waiting on the express line, a local bus pulled up to our stop. It was a looooong ride.

We picked up ben and had dinner at silver diner. Of course we managed to get the worst service the one night we have guests!

The next day, everyone slept late and then we had lunch at ghengis grill. They changed the set up so people can't pig out on all the meat now. They now have 3 bowl sizes and no unlimited option. Plus they have someone that handles the meat and sauces. I do like that the sauce person can keep people from double dipping their tasting spoons. I don't know how I feel about the other changes yet.

After that, jess and tara got on the road for their long drive home. I'm glad they were able to visit. It was a lot of fun. :)
Jess and tara are visiting and fun is had by all.

They got in super late on friday, but that worked to their favor because there was no traffic at all. Took them only 5 hours!

I makes a cherry pie from scratch while I waited. It is the prettiest pie I've ever made.

Yesterday morning, we went to the farmer's market. I was a little disappointed that they had no free strawberry samples, but I guess it was a tiny bit too early in the season. I did sample cucumbers, apples, and tons and tons of honey. I ended up buying a jar of purple aster honey.

Afterwards, we had burrito lunch with ben. He has been hiding all weekend, but he's never one to turn down burritos.

Then we went to mini golf at Perils of the Lost Jungle. I have wanted to go there for years, but ben has always refused because he hates mini golf. I was super excited to finally go. And it was better than I could have ever imagined! The course was filled with animatronics that would jump out and startle us. I got attacked by a gorilla!

The holes were a bit too easy, but I can forgive that because I had a ton of fun via the atmosphere. I would definitely go again. Maybe one day I'll convince ben!

After golf, was a grand attempt to avoid the house because tara's allergic to my dogs and she sneezes the entire time we are in the house. First we went to target to buy a replacement air mattress. (Mine developed a hole since the last time I used it.) Then we stopped by claude moore park to look at trees and old buildings. Unfortunately the park was filled with ticks so we fled before seeing everything.

Then we washed all our clothes because yuck ticks!

While clothes washed, we watched tremors. Then we ate cherry pie and stroopwafels.

We went to bed fairly early (for them!) after that because I was too tired to even stand. But I feel better after a full night's rest. I was out as soon as my head hit the pillow.

The last month was fairly crazy, but let's see if I can encompass it in one lj post. I have a fresh cup of tea, so let's do this.

Back from my trip! I am skipping work today because I woke up exhausted and with sore muscles. Plus it was pouring out. So it wasn't hard at all for me to curl back up in the blankets and sleep for a few more hours.

Anyway, the trip! That was almost doomed due to crazy car issues!

I got at a call at 10am that the car was ready and we were on the road by 11:30. We actually made it to Gettysburg! I was so excited! We got there just in time for a late lunch. I thought it was really neat that they sold civil war era foods in their food court. Ben got peanut soup with hard tack.

While he was eating it, he looked up and said, "I forgot my suit."

When tara and her friend came to visit, I made waffles for them. Soooooo many waffles!

I froze the leftovers though, and have been enjoying them every morning. It was brilliant.

I think once I buy more flour (I was pretty low when I made the waffles to begin with), I will make another big stack of waffles to freeze. It would be tasty and convenient! :)

Though I think when I make the recipe again, I'll replace some of the oil with butter. The oil doesn't really add to the flavor. Butter should make the waffles taste richer. Plus, then I don't have to butter them before I eat them!
This was a busy week!

Tara came to visit!

First she stopped by on her way down further south, but then she came back Tuesday night and we had adventures on Wednesday. (I took the day off from work.) There was mall shopping and dog island and five guys and little mermaid suitcases and one dollar turkeys. My dog was super excited by all the attention. She's lonely now.

On thursday I went to work where I saved the day by knowing where things are. Then we were told we could leave early. Yay!

Also yesterday ben and I bought our plane tickets to ft lauderdale for our cruise. They were really expensive! I think it's because it's not a hub. Flying to orlando would have been much cheaper, but then we'd have to drive 3 hours to the port. Yuck!

Today ben and I are playing video games. He's almost done with mario galaxy! And I've been helping! Yay!
I had my reoccurring potty dream again.

This time jess, tara, and amanda kept barging into the bathroom, so I couldn't go. Finally after I chased them off, I realized the toilet was broken so I couldn't go anyway.

It's so weird that when I am stressed out, I dream the world is stopping me from using the bathroom. What is wrong with you, brain?
Yesterday went to laura's. Her family moved to a new house surprisingly close to brentwood. I thought I was going out of my way to pick up tara but she practically lives next door.

Laura seemed to like her christmas gift. I bought her a goat. Of course, how could anyone not love a goat? It would be impossible.

I finally got laura to see host club, which is a most fantastic show. All who have not seen it should watch it.

We also watched yakitate because tara had not seen it. Now I crave fresh baked bread.

There is a tiny dog on my feet right now. She's being very annoying today.
Hung out with tara, jess, and amanda last night.

We played a game called apples to apples which was a lot of fun, especially because I won. (Then we played a little longer and amanda won.)

Afterwards, we went out for food. We all ordered a bunch of appetizers, but it was so much food!

I stayed out until about 1:30 and got home at 2. My mom was sitting up waiting for me. It was kinda really creepy.

It was pretty late so I wasn't sure if I should call ben before bed, so I flipped a coin. It said yes! I'm glad it did cause ben was up and it felt good to talk to him. We stayed on the phone together until I was falling asleep.

In the middle of the night I woke up to the bird freaking out. She was flying around the room, crashing into things. Something must of scared her. That's why I can't be lazy and not cover her cage at night. I found her clinging to the curtains in the dark, hyperventilating.

Considering I didn't go to bed until after 3:30, I think I need a bit more sleep. I'm going to have to explain to noname that I need my pillow back.
Gah, after the best week ever a little while ago I think the universe is swinging in the opposite direction.

So on saturday I called saturn. They said if I hurried, they could squeeze me in that morning. So I hurried over and they checked out my car. According to them, nothing was wrong so they turned the light off for me. On sunday, it turned back on. *sigh*

Also I overslept sunday so we barely had time to do stuff in dc. And it was raining. We went to the museum of natural history. We looked at dinosaurs, ancient mammals, nature photos, and orchids. It was insanely crowded. There was no room to breathe!

Driving home, the road was flooded so I had to figure out the alternate way home. I'm glad I didn't get lost at least.

After jess and tara left (in the scary doomy rain) I did my taxes. Ben was supposed to help but he was cranky. After taxes I was grumbling about certain people I don't like and how I wish I could do mean things. Ben got mad at me about that. That got me upset and I cried alone in the bedroom until I passed out. Ben brought me some water later and we talked, but he kept getting frustrated with me, which made me cry more. Eventually we had everything figured out, but not before I felt horrible and sick.

Then I had to walk my dog. It had finally stopped raining but the winds were so loud and fast that they made the little forest behind my apt wail. It was a creepy ghost noise. I made my dog take a very fast walk.

Woke up this morning and rushed around to get ready. Forgot about stuff I was cooking on the stove. Learned I put the wrong birth date on my taxes and would have to resubmit them. Tried to take ben to work but realized I forgot to feed my dog. Turned around, fed the dog, took ben to work again. I got to work about 10 minutes late.

I hope I survive the day. :(

[EDIT] Forgot to mention that I OWE taxes this year. I'm not getting anything back! *cries*

Many unexpected things.

Jess and tara were unexpectedly very late. I fell asleep at 2, woke at 4 to find out what happened to them, and woke at 6 to let them in. So no cherry blossoms this year, :( Maybe next year.

Then when I took my car to the car place this morning, they unexpectedly turned me away. Told me my engine light problem was a warranty issue and they couldn't bring themselves to charge me $85 for something that should be free. Then they said goodbye.

Now I need to wait for saturn to open to see if they have time for me today. That's all the way in sterling though! So I'll have to sit around and wait for them to work on my car.

Today is not going any way at all like it was supposed to.
I have finally had to make myself a reminder in my calendar to avoid my friendsfriends page on fridays. Sadness. But at least now I don't have to worry about scary things in the office.

In other news, I have a mostly clean sewing room now. Ben and I went to costco last night and bought big plastic tubs to control all my junk. What's sad is that I think I needed another tub or two to have it all completely under control.

Tonight I need to clean the kitchen and the bedroom. Kitchen is more important. I hope I can get ben to help me. Otherwise I don't think I can make it in time.

Cause jess and tara are coming to visit tonight! Yay! We're going to go to the cherry blossom festival together! :D

And with them here, I can drop off my car to be looked at. My "try not to stress out" plan is to drop the car off saturday morning after I take ben to work. If they fix the car before we go into the city, great. If not, I'll pick it up monday morning. If they charge me extra for leaving the car there overnight, I'll just have to deal. Things happen, I have no control over it, I shouldn't stress. Ben can take the bus home that afternoon unless we are back early enough to pick him up. Then I'll need them to drive ben to work saturday night and home sunday morning. (I don't think I told them that yet. :P)
I knew as soon as the alarm went off this morning that today was going to be rough. In fact, I refused to get out of bed for nearly an hour. Instead I whined to ben I wanted to die.

I had a bunch of bad dreams last night. Nightmare )

So yeah, I wasn't in a good mood this morning. And ben was too sleepy to hug me and make the scared go away.

Then at work, my boss is back in the office. After two peaceful weeks of getting things done at a relaxing pace, everything needs to be done NOW because everything is SO URGENT. It's quite jarring after my relaxing time. I had a ton of stuff to do today but I actually got it all done. I just didn't take any breaks. I am very exhausted now though.

Tonight I need to go back to spring cleaning. I need the apartment clean before jess and tara come visit. It's so soon!

Oh, but I did get a tiny bit of good news today. Defenders of Wildlife sent me an application for employment. It's not a contract though, so I won't get my hopes up. Still, it's a good sign if they want you to fill out paperwork.
So after a long stupid day I picked ben up from work and we went to target. There ben bought me a pair of cute easter socks. They were $1.

Then when we got home ben made me dinner and opened my impossible jar of salsa.

While he watched tv, I cuddled with my dog who is very very cute.

Now tara and I are talking on skype. It is magic!

I saw this at the museum yesterday and was absolutely entranced. It was fantastically surreal.

------

We took it easy on tara's last day here, going to see Borat rather than a museum. Everyone is going to tell me I have no sense of humor, but I found borat to be incredibly boring. The shock value was gone after the first 15 minutes and then it was the same joke over and over again. The only part I genuinely liked was when the bear in the ice cream truck scared all the kids. Ben and tara liked it though. So I guess it's just me.

We didn't have much time after the movie, so we got food to bring home rather than go out to eat. We watched vast quantities of host club. Originally I wanted to watch utena, but I think host club was for the best. The story is less ongoing. Utena is more something you should watch in a relatively short amount of time. (Weeks, not one night.) And host club really is most fantastic.

After I took tara to the airport, I spent the rest of the evening uploading pictures from my california trip all the way back in september. If you can figure out where my galleries are, you can sneak a peek. Eventually I'm going to put them all up in a post, explaining them. (Tree. Windmill. Sea Lion.) But for now I'm getting sleepy. I'm going to see if ben wants to read Lost Girls with me for a bit before bed.

Today! Air and Space Museum! And horses! And space ships! And Pluto! And burgers! And Neil Gaiman!
I forgot to mention the oh so exciting hotlinking adventure I had yesterday. I was checking the web stats on one of our client's websites when I noticed their hits suddenly went through the roof. It seemed odd. :P

So after a little more checking, I found that all the hits were coming from one site and were all accessing one image. Easy to guess what's going on there. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to switch that picture with something dirty or offensive. Instead I broke the link and deleted the old file.

So that was my excitement for yesterday. That and the delivery of my HP Lovecraft-themed Christmas CD. I listened to it in the car this morning. I don't think ben enjoys it as much as I do. But then, I don't think he enjoys filk as much as I do. Or hates christmas music as much as I do. (Bad experience working at a craft fair that had ONE holiday cd that they played over and over again all weekend. There are only so many times a girl can hear frosty the snowman before she goes a little insane.)

And tonight [livejournal.com profile] taraisagoddess comes to visit! Yay! Hopefully I can get the apartment cleaned in time! Tomorrow we're going to the air and space museum. That will be fun, even if I've been there before.

Some people in the anime club seems a bit annoyed that I'm skipping the meeting this weekend to *gasp* hang out with a friend I haven't seen in forever. :P I find that a little strange.

So my boss is out today, and so are tara's and ben's. That's really weird!

[Poll #837651]
Ben and tara went away. No one to talk to now. And I have 45 minutes left of work. Unfortunately I finished all my work for the day, so there's nothing really I can do. I wish I could go home early when I've done everything. I feel like I'm just wasting time sitting here.

[EDIT] And now a meeting...What, is death too good for me?
*sigh* Tara's skirt did NOT come out the way I wanted it to. I'm going to try to make a few changes here and there to try to fix it, but I don't want to give it to her if it looks terrible. :(

Also, made soap today. Melt and pour method, so not really "made" soap, but made pretty shapes out of soap. Am starting to get the hang of adding colors, scents, other soaps, etc.

I was thinking of buying some other molds and soaps to try stuff out with, but after learning I somehow missed a credit card payment, that won't be happening. Wow, late fees. I think my last payment got lost in the mail though, because I remember writing out a check for that amount. Grrrrr. Well, now it'll be paid in full and the stupid credit card company can't charge me any more.

I think I'm going to go sulk and paint my nails now.
