I saw this at the museum yesterday and was absolutely entranced. It was fantastically surreal.

------

We took it easy on tara's last day here, going to see Borat rather than a museum. Everyone is going to tell me I have no sense of humor, but I found borat to be incredibly boring. The shock value was gone after the first 15 minutes and then it was the same joke over and over again. The only part I genuinely liked was when the bear in the ice cream truck scared all the kids. Ben and tara liked it though. So I guess it's just me.

We didn't have much time after the movie, so we got food to bring home rather than go out to eat. We watched vast quantities of host club. Originally I wanted to watch utena, but I think host club was for the best. The story is less ongoing. Utena is more something you should watch in a relatively short amount of time. (Weeks, not one night.) And host club really is most fantastic.

After I took tara to the airport, I spent the rest of the evening uploading pictures from my california trip all the way back in september. If you can figure out where my galleries are, you can sneak a peek. Eventually I'm going to put them all up in a post, explaining them. (Tree. Windmill. Sea Lion.) But for now I'm getting sleepy. I'm going to see if ben wants to read Lost Girls with me for a bit before bed.
Pumpkin has been carved! Go me!

My reference pic was a scene from the opening of utena.

This was my first attempt at using the pumpkin carving dremel. My original plan was to do the whole thing with the dremel, but I quickly realized that wasn't going to happen. The tool that comes with the dremel is teeny tiny; not good for large areas like the rose pieces. Ended up having to chop out the big pieces.

Of course, by chopping big pieces out I made the structure very weak. Pieces kept falling off. I had to stick them back on with pins. This ended up being a very challenging pumpkin.

How did it come out? Ok, I guess.

Take my revolution! )

So... Pros and cons of my new toy...

Pros:
+ Being able to create different shade levels opens up wider range of pumpkin designs.

Cons
- Sprays pumpkin gunk all over me as I carve.
- Tool gets VERY hot.
- Can't carve large areas.
- Can't carve very detailed areas.

So I guess my final opinion is that the pumpkin carving dremel is an interesting tool, but not worth going out of your way to get one.
When I showed this utena video to [livejournal.com profile] j_buns, she described it as "nippletastic!"

And while I'm at it, here's [livejournal.com profile] scortia's Utena Tralala video.

[EDIT] And one cannot forget the utena musical... (Though I try very very hard.)

Go forth now, and be scarred. Or scared. Or both.
[livejournal.com profile] madamminx! We must plan an Utena night! It is most important! For Utena is a most fantastic show! It must be shared with all!

It was created by some of the same production staff that made Sailor Moon, including writer and director Kunihiko Ikuhara! You like sailor moon! It is your duty to watch Utena!

And it inspired the Utena Slut Chart! Wheee! Because the show is THAT amazing!

Please? I like to share Utena. I have it all on pretty shiny dvd too!
Kitchen Princess

Utena's Najika's parents died when she was little, and she grew up in an orphanage. One day when she was sad and in despair, a boy came along and cheered her up by giving her a kiss pudding. He also gave her a ring spoon, with a school emblem, and this becomes Utena's Najika's only clue when she later decides to try to find her "Pudding Prince". She enters the school the ring's spoon's school emblem belongs to, and the search for her prince begins.
Last night I bought ben greasy hamburgers for dinner because he had a bad day at work. We got them from five guys cause ben loves their french fries. In fact, ben made sure to mention how much he liked the fries several times. It was cute.

After dinner I practiced my calligraphy and spilled most of my ink on the table. I was frustrated and didn't want to go to calligraphy night after that, but ben made me. Once I was there it wasn't so bad. Everyone kept complimented me on how fast I was learning. I practiced on real paper this time, writing real words. (Some art supply magazine's seal of quality thingie.) They also solved my ink-spilling problem by placing the jar on my right side rather than my left.

Driving home, I listened to the utena movie soundtrack that [livejournal.com profile] scortia gave me. That soundtrack is the perfect background music for driving down long dark roads. (Though very intimidating when it started to play this morning.)

Ben was happy to see me when I got home, which made me happy. I walked then dog and then we went to bed because I was very very tired. I fell asleep in ben's arms very content and happy. I dreamed that I was graduating elementary school and my diploma had a big happy face on it because I was the top of the class.

My dog savagely attacked us this morning because she was soooo hungry and we were still in bed and couldn't we see that she was going to die if she didn't eat soon!? Ben kept getting grossed out because noname kept smearing her eyes on him. He had to get up soon after that to wash his hands. Which meant I had to get up and feed her. Fat little dog.

I'm at work now and I don't really want to do anything. But I guess I should. That's what they're paying me for anyway.
I am the proud owner of an utena threesome pillow. I'll have to take pictures at some point. It is very large. The picture isn't exactly on center, but I will deal.

Going to home depot on a weekend was a bad idea. Everyone in town was there. I waited on line forever to buy four packs of seeds and a bag of dirt. (I can't believe I spent money on dirt!) I got roma tomatoes, string beans, peas, and "carnival mix" peppers. The tomatoes will be good for sauces and stuff since ben hates raw tomatoes. String beans are the tastiest garden veggie ever. The peas will help me find inner peace. And the peppers are for ben, but I couldn't decide what kind to get. So he gets a strangely colorful mixture.

I put the seeds in an egg carton. They're soaking in water overnight. Tomorrow I'll spoon some dirt into their little carton cups so they can start to grow. I hope it all works. It will be an interesting experiment at least.

I also went to the craft store today and got supplies for making my uv bead charms. I cannot believe they didn't have any sun-shaped beads. I had to settle for sun medallions from a pack of suns and moons. The charms came out cute though. I'll have to take pictures of those soon too.

Now I've run out of handcrafts. I guess I could start some of my sewing projects, but ben has a game tonight that I'm in. Must find things to control my twitchy hands!!!

I finished the pillow. And I put it safely on a table where the tiny dog can't get to it. Now I just need to figure out how to mail it. It's a weird shape and size.

After that I started on the utena pillow. I need to buy more stuffing though. It's a really huge shirt.

I think ben wants to make me eat. I don't think he realizes that I don't need food. He made me eat chicken earlier, which made me sad. I really dislike fried chicken.
Not much at work. But it's friday so that's good. I can't wait to go home. I want to be on weekend forever.

Here's a trip down memory lane. The Utena Slut Chart. [livejournal.com profile] j_buns and I made it one day at work when we were very VERY bored. I used it today to explain relationships in the show.

The weather is warming up, which helps my mood a lot. I really hate walking around and seeing nothing but death. Things are coming back to life and the air is starting to smell good again.

That reminds me. I want to look up the flowers I used to love in New Orleans. They'd be on, I guess bushes or vines or something, since I always saw them climbing over the edges of fences. Little white flowers that smelled really good. I should learn what they are. Before I forget again.

[EDIT] Brilliance
Work today was work. While driving today I saw a truck carrying a giant snow penis. And my mom said I was a cranky old lady for getting mad at those kids. Ben is the best boyfriend ever for watching the last two volumes of utena with me. My soymilk smells like sweaty socks. I'm really tired. I should go to bed.

Ben has weekends off this month. So I actually got to sleep late. It was sooooo nice. Sad thing is, "late" was 8 o' clock. But compared to 6am, it was fantastic.

This morning ben and I played city of villains for a bit. Then went to the office to get the packages that were delivered yesterday. Mom sent ben his birthday gift. It was a george foreman grill. So for lunch we used that to cook veggie burgers. Also in the box was my birthday gift from my brother. It was the soundtrack to spamalot! :) Hehe.

Also in the office was my utena dvds! :D I bought them for myself as a birthday gift. Now I have it all! Bwahaha! It came with a free t-shirt that's HUGE!!!!!! I'm thinking of making a pillow out of it. A scary threesome pillow of doom.

After that, we watched some dr who. the second dr's companions are so dumb it hurts. Especially the girl. I want her to die.

The rest of the evening has been tv and knitting. And laughing at my silly dog. She flops around in adorable ways, and I think she has a puppy crush on ben.
After I got home from work, I tried to play warcraft with ben but the game hates me. Every time I play, something goes wrong. Crazy lag...Not able to talk to npcs...Inventory items disappear...Quest lists that have the item I need missing...All other players and npcs disappear. It's like the game hates me.

I got frustrated with that soon enough and started to sulk, so ben fed me and then we watched more Utena. We are up to disk 8 which means crazy stuff that makes me go *spaz* and them whimper a lot about loss of nobility and mansluts and the fanservice car. I was VERY upset with the last episode of disk 8, even though I knew it was coming. (No pun intended. At all. *spaz*) Ben and I need to finish this series soon so that I can have closure again. Until I watch it again.

Right, so after getting wonderfully distressed OVER A CARTOON, ben and I took a nap before he had to go to work. That nap always messed up my sleep schedule, but I like to spend the extra time with ben. I can't ask him to stay up with me because then he gets sleepy at work and makes mistakes. So it's best this way I think.

I'm looking forward to this weekend. Ben is taking off from work so we can go to six flags. We got free tickets from our cable company. I'm shooting for sept 11, hoping that there will be fewer crowds. Then we can go on rides a billion trillion times! :) It'll be fun! Though, I am sad that I can't go on roller coasters with ben. If only they didn't make me puke...
I was busy at work today. That was nice. They had to tell me all the stuff I needed to know since they will be out all next week. Oh my god they gave me so much to do. And after giving me this huge list I was told, "But we know you work fast so this should take you no time at all." :P Is that my problem at work? I'm working too fast for them? ^^;

Next week I get to do some real stuff. They want me to write a few PR releases for a really simple project, just to see what I can do. I hope I can do a good job.

I left work early to drive ben to the dentist. He had two of his wisdom teeth pulled. I was surprised by how fast they did it. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes. Though, this place specializes in pulling out teeth, so I bet the dentists there are very good at it.

Ben seems to be in pain now. He's tired and a bit out of it. When we got home after picking up some painkillers, we watched some Utena and then ben went to bed. I wanted him to take his painkillers before he went to sleep, but he said he didn't need them. I worry that whatever the doctor gave him during the surgery will have worn off when he wakes up and he will be sad and in pain.

I'm not sure what to do with myself while he sleeps. I'm thinking I'll make cookies for the anime club tomorrow. They said to bring snacks. That have to love me if I bring homemade cookies.

After that, I guess I can sew. And I need to take my dog for a walk, but it's raining so I should wait on that.
Ben shaved off his beard today. I am happy. I don't ask him to shave because I know it makes his face all sad, but I do like it better when he is all clean shaven.

Anyway, today's work was not that exciting. They are very busy there so they don't have much time to train me on how to do anything. I mostly fiddled with little busywork tasks until I was given that website to work on again. I checked it for crazy little details like how many spaces there were between sentences. It actually started to make my eyes hurt. Hopefully there won't be any more revisions left. I am tired of looking at that thing.

When I got home ben was asleep. I didn't want to wake him because he stayed up all day waiting for the furniture to be delivered. And then he built my glorious, wonderful bed. It feels so good not to sleep on the ground anymore!!! Anyway, he was sleepy, but I was lonely. I didn't want to wake him so I crawled in bed and took a nap. Then I was insanely groggy when I woke up. I probably really frustrated ben.

Oh, we decided to try netflix and we got our first set of dvds today. We got Hero, B5 disk 1, and Utena disk 1. Ben bought me dinner at the fabulous Wendy's, which we brought home to eat while watching Utena. It took a bit to get the computer to play the dvd right. The programs kept crashing and opening and it was all so weird and frustrating. Eventually we got it to work, but only had time for the first episode. And then my dog kept sitting on the mouse and keyboard, messing up the controls and pausing/stopping the show.

Now ben is at work and I miss him very much. I guess I should go to bed soon so I won't be too tired tomorrow. Blah, I need to be more exciting. Maybe tomorrow I'll start a sewing project.
