The last month was fairly crazy, but let's see if I can encompass it in one lj post. I have a fresh cup of tea, so let's do this.

The parental units visited for the weekend. Managed to not kill them despite my cramps and headaches and their insane ignorance.

In return, they fixed many things in the house for me.
- Put insulation and moldings around the back door
- Installed a garage door opener
- Cut down a bush and tree that were growing next to the mailbox
- Fixed a pipe in the ac closet
- Minor painting touch ups
- A couple lights repaired

In the past when they have visited, my mother has attempted to cook. It has been so awful, ben was nearly in pain. She boils vegetables until they are completely free of taste and she cooks meat until they are dry as ash. So this time, I insisted in doing the cooking. I made a cinnamon apple chicken which was really really good.
Chicken with cinnamon and apples served with saffron rice pilaf
The chicken was super moist and sweet from the apples dripping down while it baked. No one even touched the gravy. There was no need for it. (Compared to the last time my mother made turkey and I taught ben the trick of using gravy to rehydrate the corpse.) Oh, and I used 3 different types of apples, so there was a lot of variety in the flavors.

My dogs enjoyed the company. They got tons of extra attention. Since my parents left, things have calmed down back to normal and the dogs are bored.

I took them for a long walk yesterday. Poor noname had to be carried home. Maggie is still having trouble with cars. She's terrified of them. But I have been taking her down quieter streets to help her get used to cars a little slower and easier. After the walk, both dogs were too tired to cause trouble. It was so nice.
Maggie after a long walk Noname after a long walk

I wanted to take them for another long walk today, but there is construction going on down the block. There's no way maggie is going to handle that well. Even inside the house she's freaking out a little. I hope the construction is a one-day thing.
The parental units have finally left. The house became so quiet, it was slightly creepy.

On Monday, I helped my dad install a new garage door. The kit said it would only take four hours. Not sure who came up with that estimate. It took nearly all day.

Then my dad went out to help my mother work on the deck. Not sure why since she was constantly yelling at him and chasing him off. She's not a team player.

Tuesday, I went to work at nearly the crack of dawn so that I could leave early. It wasn't the best of ideas. I was too tired to think and kept crying over the stupid things the marketing agency did. I left just a bit before 4 so I could drive my parents to the car place to pick up their car.

I got them peruvian chicken for dinner so they'd shut up about all the vegetarian food I eat. When I visit them, I don't complain about the meat. I eat around it. When they visit me, they shouldn't complain about the lack of meat. Everything I served had some protein in it, so it's not like they were going to be deficient.

After dinner, they packed up and left. I found that a bit odd. They left around 9pm. I hate driving at night. Maybe they hated staying with me that much? Oh well, my dog and I got to have a quiet night once they were gone. I did a little cleaning and then went to bed.

Ben called me maybe an hour after I fell asleep. It was really good to talk to him, though he said I was having trouble following conversations. At least with my parents distracting me, the start of the week went a little faster. Only another three more days until he returns home to me.

In the morning, my dog peed everywhere in the yard to cover up the smell of my parents' dogs. She seemed pleased with herself.

So far the day hasn't been that bad, aside from a very hot bus ride. Hopefully it goes fast. I have a lot of cleaning to do when I get home. Plus I need to plant my tomatoes AGAIN. These stupid things won't stay alive. What am I doing wrong???
A minute to breathe.

My parents arrived Thursday night. Their car broke down just a few blocks away from the house.

It had to be towed to a transmission place on Friday. We don't know when it will be back.

After the car was towed (that took all morning), I took my parents to Lowes to buy a ridiculous amount of wood. We also got a new sliding back door and a new garage door. We had to rent a truck and still it took two trips. I spent nearly $2000. :(

On Saturday, my parents took out the old sliding door to discover that the new one is about a foot bigger. So they had to cut open the walls a bit. Where they were reminded of the metal studs in this house. So it took the entire day to get that door in. They started working on the deck when they were done, but there wasn't much sunlight left so they were only able to add a few planks.

Today they continued to work on the deck. It is looking unlikely that they will get the new garage door installed. Just not enough time.

Also today was the day ben had to leave for his business trip. I took him to the airport and got pulled over along the way. I thought I was speeding. But it ended up being a case of mistaken identity. The cop saw a blue car cross a divider illegally and assumed it was me because I was the first blue car he saw. There weren't even any dividers to cross on the route I took! So the cop let me go. It was still really scary.

My parents took my car to the store to buy even more supplies. Hopefully they do not crash my car.
We ended up not going shopping cause I wasn't feeling too great. Instead, I tried out my Pie Machine that I got for giftmas.

When my mother was visiting, she (quite insanely) made a turkey for us. So ben and I have a ridiculous amount of leftover turkey to use up. And it's not even good turkey. My mother has an amazing way of serving turkey with the texture of ash without actually burning it.

I took the dehydrated turkey and turned it into turkey pot pie filling. I am especially pleased that I made the chicken stock myself from old bones from a chicken dinner we had while my parents visited. (I ate more meat during my parent's visit than I normally eat in a whole month.)

End result: Awesome tiny turkey pot pies.

Turkey Pot Pie

I made four, but they were very filling. So I have one for lunch today and one still leftover in the fridge.
This morning I tried a new hash brown recipe. It was marginally better than previous ones, but still not as good and crunchy as in a restaurant. Now I am wondering if a waffle iron may improve the crunchiness. (Because you can cook anything in a waffle iron.)

Then ben and I drove around neighborhoods looking at houses. It made me very very car sick. Plus I had a rainy day headache, which put me in a generally bad mood. We did find a house that looked nice though. It had a slightly southern style to it that made me think of new orleans. It's in our price range too, which is always a plus.

We ate lunch after that and went home. By then my headache was almost as bad as a migraine. I felt like I would die. Ben sent me to bed. I felt much better after a couple hours of rest and darkness and quiet.

Suffered through the weekly parental phone when I recovered from my grogginess. Learned that my dad's sugar got so low, he glued the kitchen chairs to the floor. I was trying very hard not to laugh.

I think I will have a late dinner now. I brought home my leftovers from lunch, so I'lll just reheat those.

Also, my dog is very cute.
I have made it to ny. Am exhausted.

We hit traffic almost immediately. Then the rubber trim on my windshield fell off. Then we hit traffic again until we got to my parents' house. Not a good ride at all.

Ate dinner with my parents, then made a hasty exit when mom started her obama hate. Poor noname is stuck there. I hope she forgives me.

I think I'm going to bed early tonight. I have A TON of stuff to do tomorrow. I will need the early start.
Fewer fights today, which is always a good thing.

In the morning we went to the second photographer. I don't think I will be choosing them for my photos. All their pictures were very nice and they were willing to work to my budget, but it had too much of a wedding factory feel to it. I didn't get a sense that they'd be able to take the time and make the pictures "our story." We'd just be another couple on the assembly line.

I do have one more question for the first photographer though before I sign anything. What happens if my photographer gets sick? They only have one photographer in their studio, so I assume they have a plan B. Just want to know what it is.

After the photographer, we went to a local baking/candy shop to purchase supplies for making chocolate stars. I bought a mold and a small bag of melting chocolates to experiment. I would like to repeat that. I bought a bag of MELTING CHOCOLATE on a 90 degree day. Oh yes I am brilliant...

From there we went to a fabric store to find tulle for my veil, but their selection was terrible. Only one shade of white! Lame!

My lip keeps splitting open, which is rather painful.

Tonight we celebrated easter. Cause my mom is insane.

We dyed eggs first. I made some really neat effects by gradually cracking the shells between colors. When I peeled them to eat, they looked extra cool.

Then we had a big easter dinner complete with a huge ham. My parents are going to be eating ham for a month because I don't eat ham and my brother is leaving tomorrow.

I forgot to mention that I beat The World Ends With You yesterday. I was having an impossibly hard time with the boss, even on easy, so I called ben for advice. He told me to take a break, go to the bathroom, and try again. I did so and beat the boss on my very first try.

Now I'm playing through again cause there's a whole different mode to the game which gives you certain goals to complete each day in addition to the regular game goals. I'm going to try to beat it this way now.

I kinda want to go to bed now, but I wanted to call ben before I went to sleep. I think he's napping. I don't know when he'll wake up, so if he'll decide to sleep until morning. I want to hear his voice just for a little bit. :(
Got dragged to that party upstate. It was just as bad as expected.

It was full of screaming children. At least 30 of them. They spent the early parts of the party running around hitting each other (and everyone nearby) with balloons. After about an hour, the room took on the distinct stench of soiled diapers. Try eating dinner that that wafting into your mouth at every bite.

The dj was absolutely terrible. Everything I hate about djs. He played the music too loud so I couldn't hear what anyone said. He set up stupid lights and disco balls. He talked and talked incessantly, but about what I don't know because his mouth was too close to the mike and his voice was all distorted. He was practically licking the thing. He didn't even do a good job at getting people up to dance, which is the main reason people give me for hiring a dj in the first place.

But really, those two things were not the worst of it. The worst was that EVERYONE kept asking me when I was going to start having kids. Why don't they just ask me when I'm going to give up on my silly dreams and ambitions?

At the start of the evening I was civil about the question, but by the end of the party I was getting pretty mean. I wish I could think up a witty answer to that question. I started targeting the ways each individual's life was negatively influenced by having kids. (Giving up school, putting on weight, having to work extra jobs, never getting to travel, etc.) It's too bad my parents threw away my brother's old punching bag. I could really use it right now to vent some frustration.

I am homesick already. I miss ben.

Been busy

So on Monday I did wedding stuff. First we went to visit my grandpa's friend who is a party planner. She's going to give me a discount on decorations and stuff like that, which is very nice of her.

We talked a bit about the theme. She said she'd start brainstorming, but in the meantime I need to decide on a place so that she has a more concrete idea to work with. She also gave me a list of places she thought I might like that she thought I should look at.

Then we went to one of the places she suggested, which looked like just a big tent in her pictures. Unfortunately they very recently renovated so it looks like a big gold tent. I was not impressed, but I could work with it if I had to.

From the stupid books I read:

"Why does this always happen to me?"
Karin already had been kidnapped by a serial killer and a murderous nun this year alone.

Anyway, I have spent the day sulking in my room about being trapped. I talked to ben a bit about how sad and angry I was. Then I took a nap. (Sorry laura! I know you invited me over but I was in a horribly cranky mood and was not fit to be around people!)

And I am now reading stupid books. Like Chibi Vampire. Something amazingly terrible happens to the character in every volume of the light novels. This is volume 4. She was nearly killed in the one where she wasn't kidnapped. Vol 4 of the novel took place around vol 4 of the manga. I'm up to vol 10 in the manga right now where the main characters FINALLY started to date. But of course right after that they learned terrible news that will make their relationship very hard. Cause otherwise things would just be too easy.

Also got caught up on Kitchen Princess. Things were going far too well for the main character so rocks fell (or trucks did not stop) and the boy she liked died. She was sad for a while, but then she made cookies and ate some ice cream and everything is starting to work out again.

After I finish my terrible vampire book, I think I'll get caught up on Fruits Basket. I'm less excited about that one because I know how it ends and it doesn't end the way I wanted it to. But I have come to an acceptance of the ending. After all, stupid people belong with other stupid people. I think a smart person would be incredibly unhappy if they had to spend the rest of their life with an idiot. So it's all good. But it just makes getting to the end a bit boring.

Being at my parents' house is boring. I wish they had actually taken care of the wedding stuff like they were supposed to.
My parents are going to Florida around Oct 18-25. Do I want to go?

Pros:
- I like disney
- I like vacations

Cons:
- It costs money
- It's with my parents

Does anyone else want to go? It's a big townhouse, so if friends actually wanted to make a weekend of it (maybe the weekend of the 18th) then I might be more willing to go.

Also, I need a better disney icon that does not say I'm going to disney.
Today I finally drive home. I have grand plans to hug ben so tight he won't be able to breathe.

I didn't sleep well last night so my parents are trying to get me to stay another day "to rest."

Noooooooo way.

I'm going home! I got enough sleep for a couples hours of driving. And I'll have my dog singing all the way to keep me awake.
Finally uploaded the pictures from Christmas and the day after.

Noname, a tree, and the Charmin Restroom )
I have a big red zit under my nose. One of those horrible deep ones that never pop, they just hurt forever and ever.

I tried to use hot water to get the gunk to the top, but that just made it redder. Now it looks like I have the beginnings of a nose bleed. I wish it would go away. It really hurts.

On a completely different but also unpleasant topic, last night I was food shopping with my dad and he asked me if I was pregnant! Gah!

I saw he had bought soup for lunch so I had asked him if we could have crackers too. Not seeing the soup/crackers connection he asks completely seriously, "Why? Do you have morning sickness?"

I spazzed at him and asked how he could think that. He said that was the only reason people eat crackers. So I had to explain to him I eat crackers in soup all the time.

I guess now that they know I live with ben, they're going to ask me if I'm pregnant all the time. I think they are looking for ways to say "I told you so." It won't work though. I am smarter than them.
My dog is cuddling me very intensely. I think she missed me today.

We got into the city around 2ish and drove around for an hour looking for parking. We took my car so I spent that entire gasping and screaming as cabs came too close to my car and children kicked it. I was not happy.

Once a parking garage was found, we went to look at the tree. It was very large. While we were looking at it, a guy gave us all "free" hats and then asked for $10 each. We gave him back his hats.

Near the tree was a large pond full of pennies. It was for some sort of charity thing. I wonder how they keep people from reaching down and grabbing a handful.

Food, Restrooms, and Broadway )
Today there are grand plans to go into the city, look at displays, stare at the tree, find a nice place to eat, and then see ave q.

My parents want to leave at noon but I think that is far too early. The show isn't until 8. Who wants to stand around in the cold for that long? Brrrr!
Blurgh....I forgot what it was like to get sick after every meal.
Still no food. Am beginning to suspect my parents had me drive up here so they can kill me.
