The house is quiet. The house has not been this quiet for about a year.

My bird just would not stop screaming. No matter what I did, She would not stop. I even consulted a bird expert. They suggested my bird had decided I was her mate and that she was screaming all day because I would not return her affections.

So over the weekend, I drove up to NY to bring my bird to live with my parents. They have several other birds, so I'm hoping she will make friends and talk to them rather than scream at me all day long.I feel a little guilty abandoning her, but I just didn't know what else to do.

During the trip, I also did fun stuff.

On Saturday I went to the Bronx zoo with my family and a few friends. Aside from the ridiculous everything-costs-extra pricing, I had a good time. I got the all you can eat ticket so I didn't have to worry about pulling out my wallet at every turn. They had an animatronic dinosaur safari that was both cheesy and awesome. There were baby dinosaurs!

I also saw a super cute baby sea lion afterwards. It was so tiny! And a baby rhino that was surprisingly bouncy for something so big.

I was a little disappointed by the penguin feeding which did not have enough viewing room for everyone to see. Also, why did the whole building smell like cat urine?

But I did get to ride on a bug carousel, so that was neat.

Overall it was a good day. I was totally exhausted when it was over.

On Sunday, I met up with friends for board games and dinner. The board games were fun except for a stupid card game we played where I lost every single round. Dinner was good even though a lot of it was food I had never tried before. My dish was tasty though. I had cauliflower and it had spices in it to give it a very slight flowery taste. And then the baklava was a perfect way to end the dinner.

I also met my friend's dog harley who was super adorable and kissy and I wanted to take him home. I kept hugging and squeezing him and singing him the puppy pants song.

Monday I drove him and then crashed to sleep. I slept most of tuesday too. I unpacked wednesday and then today I started classes again!

I had two classes this morning, both in computer science and by the same teacher. So far it looks like basic easy stuff so I'm not too worried.

I have one more class tonight. A calculus class. Shouldn't be too terribly hard assuming the teacher speaks understandable english.

I think I might take a short nap before that so I'll be fresh for the late night class. Pretty inconvenient that they didn't have any good daytime ones.
Yesterday was fun and excitement with a trip to the zoo. There will be pictures later. The baby elephant was cute, as were the penguins and the baby camel. The polar bears and the arctic fox looked distressingly hot. And I got to pet a goat in a bucket! Also, dani made a most excellent suggestion to have a picnic. The only disappointment of the day was not being able to feed a giraffe.

When I got home, I passed out. Too much sun and exercise I guess.

Then I had a nightmare about ben breaking up with me because I didn't want him seeing other people while married to me. He wanted a girlfriend on the side to do all sorts of weird stuff with. I told him he had to choose her or me. And he chose her. I started to cry and woke myself up with a sorta cry/gasp/scream. Luckily ben was there to reassure me that it was all a dream.

Zoo-going people! This monday we see the baby elephant! I'm thinking aim to arrive around 10am. The baby elephant viewing is only from 10-noon.

New Orleans people! Should need be (I really hope need not be), we have a spare mattress.
Gah, I disappeared off the face of the earth a bit.

Hmm, so saturday was tae kwon do class. We practiced kicking. I'm getting much better. I managed to kick more times than I fall over now.

After class I stopped at the craft store for supplies. I'm going to make an anniversary card for my parents. (They are weird and demand anniversary gifts from their children. I think that's a bit like me giving them valentine's day gifts.)

Sunday I met with allicia to go to the zoo. (I told her I'd assume she hated me if we didn't do something together this summer.) It was fun. The meerkats were especially cute. The babies were tiny balls of fluffy cuteness. After seeing them, nothing else in the zoo could compare.

On the way to the zoo, an extremely friendly family started talking to me. It was strange but at least they were nice. Their surprisingly well-behaved children sang the dolphin song from the hhgttg movie and applauded me for working for defenders. It was all so very strange.

While I was out, ben was the amazing boyfriend that he is and cleaned the apt. He vacuumed the bedroom and did a ton of laundry. Unfortunately the laundry machine exploded so I had to pick up a mop and bucket on the way home. Everything is under control now though.

Oh! And I wore a hold through my toe today! It was impressive!
Yesterday was my trip to the zoo. I won't go into too much detail, since I took pictures and want to post them later.

I was REALLY stressed out getting there though. I had to most awful time trying to find parking at the train station. And then it took forever for the train to arrive. By the time I actually go on a train, I had missed my viewing time for my panda tickets. (Don't worry, it all worked out in the end.)

So yes, zooing. With pictures to follow later.

By the end of the day I was soooooo tired. We stopped at a sandwich place for dinner cause there was no way either of us would be capable of cooking. I was too tired to even make decisions. I made sad faces at ben and threw tantrums. But I felt a little better after I ate something.

When we got home, I took a nap. It was supposed to be a short one but I just couldn't wake up. It was like I was paralyzed with sleep. And I was soooo cranky when I tried to wake up. But ben is the sweetest and didn't get angry at me. In the end, I managed to stay awake for about half an hour before I went back to bed.

I went to sleep with my new panda plushie. It's very soft. Ben bought it for me. He pointed out at bedtime that I rarely sleep with plushies anymore. I guess it's cause I can hold onto ben instead. He's much better than any plushie.
Today I went to the zoooooooooooooooooooooooo
It's 19 degrees out right now. Will reach a high of 30. How important is going to the zoo for me?
So, a while back a baby panda was born at the national zoo. There was a naming contest, with lots of fancy chinese names. I wanted them to name the panda Butterstick. However, that wasn't one of the choices. I picked Tai Shan instead. I liked how it sounded kinda like Taiwan (The panda is going to be shipped back to China when it gets older.) and also that seemed like a lucky name. I must have been right about the lucky part because that's the name that won.

I have spent the day trying to figure out when they will open the panda to the public. It's by ticket only and I want to reserve mine. Seems right now reservations are only open to Friends of the Zoo.

Scroll down for the panda cam!

Or if he's nowhere to be seen on the cam, here's a video of Butterstick getting a check-up and playing.
